Ronald Koeman announced yesterday that he doesn't call up Mantorras because he has Miccoli, Marcel and Nuno Gomes and he only uses 1 forward up front. He says he can't call up 4 forwards per game and that maybe the best thing to do is to loan Mantorras. But Luis Felipe Vieira was questioned today, after visiting the Benfica House of Coruche, about Mantorras and has said without criticing Koeman that he didn't like what he said about Mantorras. He also stated that in some cases things that we want to say should be communicated internally within the club and not out in the open. Vieira said that every player in Benfica is importante to the club and its SAD.

In my opinion, I agree with our President because Mantorras is a very good player and I know and he knows that Mantorras has the talent to play in Benfica and Koeman just isn't choosing to play him. In my opinion Mantorras is better than Marcel, he has proven it last year by being decisive in many matches and helping Benfica win the title. Trappatoni used him last year and and showed confidence in him and he didn't let us down. I hope Luis Felipe Vieira makes him watch the tapes of last years games when Mantorras was the "Super Sub" . Koeman the President is going to have a word with you and you won't like it. Next time think before you speak!!

What is your opinion about this issue? And what do you think about Mantorras?

FABIO!!!
omg...i reeely like mantorras.....he if leaves that woulda huge mistake for befnica.....they need fowards.....we have an incosistent /injury prone fowards squad..........we need mantorras!!!!!!
AGUIA-SLB
Marcel is shit. why call him up over Mantorras? If Mantorras starts more often he would do better then Gomes.
Danny914
I think that mantorras should be given a fairer chance.
porkchop_pryde
I agree though I don't see a problem loaning Montarras to another team we have Geovanni, Miccoli, Nuno Gomes for the striking positions though Montarras is extremely good to I definitly agree choosing Montarras over Marcel but I think since our forward line is strong enough as it is we can loan him out for a year so atleast he can get playing time and not just be sitting on the bench then take him back and use him. Either way Marcel sucks and we wasted our money on him.

-----------------------------------------

Sorry I changed my mind I am wrong I don't want to loan Montarras he should be called up ahead of Marcel because Marcel is garabge I feel like he just calls him up because hes "brazillian" which is retarted Montarras diserves to be up their now he's not better then Miccoli or Nuno Gomes but definitly worth the Benfica position and is excellent to take the place of one of them whenever its needed. Lets get rid of Marcel and Karyaka and we can give a 2 for 1 deal their just not worth having I hate them.

Marcel is a good player for a team like Academica. There are a lot of players like him (Moretto, Carlitos...) that when they come to Benfica they become flops. Probably the shirt is too heavy. laugh.gif

Koeman ate his words tonight.

Benfica Stronger With Mantorras - Manager

Lisbon, 04/19 - Jorge Manuel Mendes, manager of the Angolan striker Pedro Mantorras who plays for Benfica of Portugal, said that the club would benefit more if the player was a frequent option in the first 11 team.

"According to statistics data, at the moment Pedro Mantorras has the highest goal scoring average. He plays less time but scores the most. Now, it is obvious that if Mantorras plays regularly, Benfica has the conditions to be stronger. But this matter is not of my concern. I wish that this happens but the technical team is the one to decide", he affirmed.

He stressed that he believes that things can change in the near future and Pedro Mantorras can confirm all that everyone knows about him.

Forca Mantorras! Just start the guy already, give him a chance!
NunoGomes
Let Mantorras play more and longer. I feel that even after his injury Mantorras is ready to play more than 8-15 minutes. And he is a proven crowd please, goal scorer so if he plays he will deliver just like he did ast year and this year after Luis Felipe Vieira came out to defend him or else Ronald Koeman would of traded him. Sorry Koeman Mantorras is here to stay, he deserves to play for the SLB!! He loves the Jersey and there are not too many loyal players out there now a days , its all about the money, Mantorras likes both but is very loyal, he once said "at SL e Benfica I would play for free". He knows how it feels to be poor and he is grateful to "The Gloriso", I respect him for that and he is also a great player which is a bonus.

Forca Mantorras and Viva O Sport Lisboa e Benfica!!

Build-up to Fifa World Cup 2006: The Angola dream
05 May 2006

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ANGOLA sent a tremor through the football fraternity when they qualified for their first ever World Cup Finals, and now, led by a host of young talent including star striker Pedro Mantorras, will throw caution to the wind in Germany.

The Luanda-born Mantorras will turn 24 just before the tournament starts but his array of talents and finishing have led pundits to claim that he is the best player to come out of ‘Portuguese’ Africa since the legendary Eusebio left Mozambique to sign with Benfica in 1961. Ironically, Mantorras also plays his club football for Benfica after snubbing Inter Milan as a 19-year-old in 2001 to complete a transfer from Alverca.

"Benfica is my destiny," Montarras declared at the time.

The road to the peak of club and international football has been hard and cruel for Montarras whose father died when he was just three years old, and his mother when he was 16.

"I know what it's like to go hungry and to sleep on the streets," said Montarras.

"I had a brother to look after and became the head of the family very young. I had a lot of difficulties early in my life. Now that my fortunes have improved, I'm going to do what I can to help the underprivileged," he added in typically modest fashion.

His career has hit new heights since signing with Benfica. He played a key role in helping Angola take four points off Nigeria and then hanging on in dramatic style to edge Rwanda 1-0 in their final qualifier to seal their passage to Germany and send a ravaged country into delirious celebrations.

Mantorras appears to love the big occasion and, as a relatively unknown 19-year-old, became the top scorer at the Under-20 African Championships in Ethiopia scoring five goals to help Angola to the title. He has come a long way from the streets of Luanda to grace the palatial Stadium of Light in Lisbon and has played in Europe's most prestigious competition, notably the Champions League.

Benfica also won their first Portuguese title in 11 years in 2005 to send their fiercely loyal fans partying into the night.

A skilful, tough, no-nonsense striker who is ruthless in front of the goal, Mantorras will now complete his journey to the pinnacle of his playing career by playing at the World Cup Finals. — AFP

I found this really good article of Mantorras. What a legend to snub Inter Milan to play for Benfica. I love this guy...hope he destroys everyone in the World Cup (except Portugal of course laugh.gif )

WHy is that? what happend?
mEGa
He had a fight with the manager and it got ugly. He said he would leave the Angola NT after the WC due to the fact that during the CAN he didn't play and the team got very poor results.

He hasn't been called since then, he can still be called of course but it doesn't look too good.

Mantorras looks like he is on the way out in December to an English club. It would be hard to see him go... he loves the Benfica shirt. He was such a promosing talent but injury really set him back sad.gif
