should we not just start a new topic for the new season? to make it easier?

anyways top quality race, alonso was lucky thought schumacher was going to get past him when he was in the pits, rosberg looks something special. raikkonen(woop) did fantastic, starting 20th and getting a podium.

good start for the f1 season.

just quoted it fromt he other thread.

oh and also it is much better that they can change the tyres, because i reckon raikkonen could have won last season if he hadn't fallen foul by this rule a few times
Pepe
Jesus, Nico Rosenberg was brilliant today. Nice to see Cosworth back in the F1 fray. They will have the engine of 2006.
Nando.
Fantastic opening race. A great way to get that rid of that F1 withdrawal syndrome.

Nice move from Alonso on Massa at the beginning. THe brazilian looks in over his head at Ferrari I reckon. The pit-lane exit with Schumacher was nail biting stuff and the subsequent battle for P1 was nice.

Nico Rosberg was the biggest surprise though, where did that drive come from? I suspected Raikkonen would be near the top by the end of the race.
23 Carra Gold.
Pretty disapointed it didnt start in melbourne not a glammer way to start a new season as i didnt even know it had begun until i saw the qualiffying on the news O_o
Varun.
Fantastic drive from kimi! I suspected all along that he would pull some rabbit from the hat and he did! All the accolades may have gone to alonso and schumi but he deserves as much for being the fastest guy around
Go kimi.I'm tipping him to win the title this time

I think im with you actually mate.

Raikkonen will be the top contender with Alonso for the championship, in my opinion. He was great last year, and this year he looks more fearless than ever. Coming from a last placed start, and finishing in 3rd is one hell of a drive, and credit to him.

Looking forward to the Malaysian Grand Prix on Sunday. Lets hope its a good race. smile.gif
Nando.
Very exciting start. Alonso got an amazing jumo off P7 to pass the Williams and Montoya to P3. He looks in a good position to win the race now.
Matty #3
Another very good race.

Alonso's start was quality as you said Nando, and he raced very well, but Fisichella was just unstoppable this weekend. First in the qualifiers, and now in the race itself. I hope he can keep racing like he did this weekend. He's been in the sport for ages now, and he's never really excelled...hopefully this year he'll be able to compete with Alonso for the title.

Unfortunate for Raikkonen today, nothing he could do about that. Schuhmacher was just disappointing today, he wasnt himself at all.
Allan.
damn... missed it and seems like a good race and all!

i think if alonsos team didnt double the fuel (adding about 50 kilos of weight to the car) this weekend it would have been a different race. but they did and fisichella raced very well.

kudos to villenueve for actually finishing this week too. the red bull team didnt look to great dispite being able to run the limited v10 engines. should be an interesting year. massa is fast and barichello is struggling in his new team. renault still looks the team to beat though. i tihnk once mclarens mercedes figures out a few glitches they will be right in the middle of things too.
Nando.
Its a shame Briatore didnt let his racers race in the third stint. Alonso's engine was due a change for Australia so he could push it to the limit. He was reeling in Fisichella fairly easily and it would have been an exciting battle at the end. I guess they had the world championship in mind so they decided to be cautious.

I was really surprised with McLaren's pace (or lack thereof). I thought Montoya was going to mount a serious charge with the heavy fuel load but he pretty much reserved himself to steer clear of trouble, which is so unlike him. I dont know if it was him or the team's orders.

I was disappointed in NIco Rosberg. He showed that he is still a rookie.

i havent followed the races this eyar so far, any good rookies this time?

Takuma Sato actually put in a very good race in Sepang, Ide has been a disaster. They are pretty much at the same pace Minardi were, which is pretty good considering they barely put a car together.

Kimi would probably be in McLaren, unless they provide a car that doesn't suffer engine failures, last time when Schumi was King, he suffered a series of Engine Failures...the Next Yr against Alonso it fared a bit better yet they were problems, it always happen when he is leading, it could have made him really frustruated...

As for Montoya, no idea, he just moved and is going ok, he should have stayed at McLaren, IMO

Rubens is one person whom I saw a threat, but his first race was average....Nico and Button were amazing...

As for me, I still support Kimi for this year as well, just like I was for the last 2 yrs
edinho
Kimi needs to leave immediatly! If it wasnt for that car he'd be world champion. How many times are we gonna have too see him start from the back and win or get on the podeum. The Mclaren's never been reliable and its not going to get any better. The 2 driver for Ferrari next year will be Massa and Kimi.
Nando.
Part of the reliability issues could be Kimi's own fault in some respects, just like the reliability issues of Giancarlo Fisichella with Renault. Sometimes the drivers dont take care of their cars appropriately for whatever reason. Its clear that Juan Pablo Montoya hasnt had the same issues as Kimi...

With Alonso moving to McLaren next season I think that Kimi will leave. Toyota, Ferrari, and Renault look like the most interested teams. I have to think that Ferrari will make a big push for him to replace Schumacher.

I would like to see Montoya stay at McLaren to partner Alonso. Alonso and Montoya would be an explosive lineup and really fun to watch.

I'm for the automobiles of the people, and Renault makes very nice cars IMO. Anyway's I don't know about Mercedes/McLaren lately...they look a bit shaky in F1.

after this weekend button must be furious.. his car blowing up not 20 metres from the end of the race. Alonso looked good again, not amazing, but good enough to win for sure. Villenueve with a solid 6th was nice, hes turned into a more consistant driver again.

Fisichella has no reason to be lagging so much except for his own blunders, alonso is proving their cars can get it done, and kimi had the same problems for part of teh race till the end when he seemed to gain some composure.

I think the main team that should be concerned is ferrari. Shumacher isnt cutting the mustard and massa needs to mature.

next year is going to be interesting, after all these new rules are learned, or dropped. should be good.
Nando.
It must be terribly embarrassing for Fisichella. Im sure that he is ruing the fact that Renault agreed to allow Team radio transmissions to a worldwide audience. Before it was his "this car is fucking shit" rant and now it was the "Alonso is lapping two seconds a lap faster in the same car, the same tyres, and the same fuel load. This cannot be happening".

Fisichella just doesnt have the consistency to be a champion. He can't put in the fast laps at the crucial moments of the race.

It was a very entertaining race. Seeing the McLarens go at it in the opening laps was awesome and Button just cant seem to get over that hump. Today he was overtaken easily and it wasnt just on the restarts.

Steve Machett and David Hobbs hinted at the possibility of Giancarlo still suffering from the post effects thanks to the flu or cold he had. Obviously, The Fish clearly isn't as fast as Alonso on a consistent basis and when you factor that in with the shitty feeling you get after having a cold, i think 2 seconds is something inbetween there. Funny hearing the little story of when Jarno Trulli being asked what he thought about that radio chatter involving the 2 second per lap slower Fish. Appaerantly said something to the effect of, ' Sounds like they've only crossed my name off and put Fisichella's name on.'

Honda were horribly dissapointing. Seriously, a 4 year old Arrows chassis holding up Barrichello? Button causing all sorts of doubts from commentators about how much fuel he's really carrying as shown by his performance during the first part of the race. Eventually it was clear fuel load had nothing to do with it, just a underwhelming Button drive and team performance when it counts.

Eh, atleast he now holds the title of 'Best Blown Engine' award this year. Brought fond memories of Kamikaze Sato and his engine explosion during the Monaco GP a year or two ago.

I think that Button is vastly overrated by the English media. They keep touting him as a potential World Champion but he always seems to choke when the pressure is on. There are always excuses for him (traffic in Sepang, cold tyres in Melbourne) but true Champions overcome the 'excuses'. Alonso could point to the fact that safety cars kept erasing his leads but he always pushed hard on the restarts and regained his margin. Its rare where you have a race where nothing goes wrong, but it seems Button will need one of those races to win his first Grand Prix.

I was sad to see Montoya's crash. He's one of my favorite drivers but he always makes those crucial mistakes. There isnt a more spectacular driver out there though.

Well they love to have a go at their celebreties.

Well back to the topic but I do believe buttun is a good racer and I see him as a potential champion, he only need a world class car to do so, yes he choke at times, but there were times he single handledly come out on top..But I think he has let all this glorification into his head..

Yeah I too felt really bad when Montoya crashed...even during his mistakes I used to see him escape, but not this time
Nando.
Button certainly has the speed and he's pretty agile whilst overtaking, but it seems that he just can't deliver in the crucial parts of the race and he also is pretty bad at defending his position.
Varun.
Kimi was lightening quick at the end, problem was that alonso was too.
Ferraris looked well and truly out of it.Montoya's antics were needless.Ralf was steady. for a Mclaren fan like me,the 1st podium of the season is a start.
I think Mclaren are the only eam this season [team, not driver] who can catch renault.

I have to disagree there! I think jenson's pole record shows that he is well capable and should of won a few races by now. I genuinly think the cars let him down.

I think that he has good natural speed, but he just doesnt have the savvy or the nerve to be a consistent race winner. When he needs to put in the fast times, he just doesnt come up with the goods.

Anyway Schumacher beat Ayrton Senna's pole record at Imola today. Few were surprised as Schumi has looked determined all weekend. Rubens Barrichello surprised me by qualifying 3rd, behind Button. It seems that he is finally getting used to that Honda. Disappointment from the McLarens and especially Fisichella (11th!?). Alonso is in 5th and Im confident he will be able to at least pass Massa, Barrichello and Button.

i guess all the "schumi is finished" talk is a bit premature then

anyway if you have michael and ralf both in the same car, do you think ralf can come close to michael, i always feel Ralf is a good underrated racer, being Michael's brother he must share some good genes with him.... why didnt ferrari sign ralf instead?
Varun.
brilliant drive by MS!!
I have never liked the guy i must admit, being a Mclaren fan,but i guess class showed today,i have to accept. My admirations for alonso as well, brilliant drive from the two of them.Finish wud have been tricky for MS if not for alonso hitting the kerb behind him.

Kimi was 5th just behind massa and juan managed a podium.
...............Button's bad luck continues....
this time his pitcrew screwed him.

What excitement!!
Compare that with A-1 and i really don't have to say much
Nando.
It could have been a classic finish were it not for Alonso's mistake, and Alonso's big lead in the World Championship. We saw a similar thing happen last year where Alonso was extremely cautious once he got the big lead on Kimi and it payed off. At Suzuka Alonso almost set out to prove that his caution was deliberate by putting in a spectacular drive, passing Schumacher round the outside.

I think today he would have had a go if the battle for the points was tighter. As an Alonso fan, Im torn. On the one hand I want him to maintain his large lead so that he can win the title but I also want to see exciting races. Also, for once Pat Symonds made a big miscalculation when he pitted Alonso early. Had he kept him out, he probably would'be beaten Schumi.

Fisichella still amazes me. I really dont understand how people can still call him one of the best drivers in F1. 8th from 11th on the grid? Thats unspectacular considering the obvious pace of the Renault.
Young Sniper
Alonso is just brilliant.

He is amazing in a Renault. Let's hope he doesn't slow down when he moves to the McClaren next year.

Schmacher second, Kimi third in Britain.
Donny
Alonso did well and won his 5th race of the year... quite amazing at which he is winning these races. Michael did well to come second in front of the Mr Consistent Kimi. Jack V came 8 and got a championship point laugh.gif good for him. Hope that next time we have a diffferent winner.
There's Only One United
anyone see the big crash in last weeks race?
Donny
Yea it involved Mark Webber didnt it... in the opening lap of the race. The car made few summerslats and after the seeing the replay I thought Webber might have problems... but thankfully he didnt smile.gif He is a decent driver but has so much bad luck. Talking about the race itself... wondering drive from MS, I know last years win wouldnt have had made him feel good but I am sure he would have been proud after this win at USA..... Hopefully now he will win a few more races and put pressure on Fernando Alonso
El Buitre
Well since Montoya decided to join nascar next year, Mclaren went ahead and dumped him immediately. De la Rosa is replacing him for the rest of the year

http://sports.espn.go.com/rpm/news/story?s...&id=2515956

F1 doesn't allow nor provide the kind of racing that Montoya loves and excels at. The kind that was closer to the old school F1 concept of big slicks, mechanical grip, loose rears and brass balls. Hope he does awesome at NASCAR.
There's Only One United

Will be intresting to see how De La Rosa performs in the Mclaren... he had done ok in other cars but lets see what he does when he is given a good car... Montoya sometimes drived like a champion but many occasions you wouldnt notice he was in the race or anything, he should continue racing but I think at a different level.
23 Carra Gold.
Getting out before the boat sinks.

Really has to go back to the time where the drivers drove the car and passed others without the pits being involved.
