Nando.
Given the massive moves today, I felt it was appropriate to start an NFL offseason thread.

The Dolphins gave up a 2nd round pick for Culpepper which paved the way for Drew Brees to sign with the Saints.

I was a big advocate of signing Brees instead of trading for Culpepper. Culpepper is older, hasnt proven that he can produce without Randy Moss and he has the whole off the field issues.

Good idea... I wasn't sure if anyone else really cared...

kid_a is going to be pissed. Brees to the Saints for a $10mil signing bonus and 60mil over 6 years. Incredible, lets hope for that kind of money that he doesn't 'do a Leaf' now.

Don't know about the Dolphins move though, I guess a second round pick isnt much though for a good QB which they haven't really had since Marino. Just don't think that Culpepper is the man for the job. What pick do they have in the draft though? Surely with the Saints getting Brees they wont take Leinart or Young... maybe that could've been an option for Miami.

The other move that has to be mensioned is Edgerrin James picked up by Arizona. Filled the biggest hole in their team, they needed an RB more than anything else, probably one of the worst running teams in the NFL last year. If they can get a decent WR/TE in the draft they'll have a pretty good offence going with Warner and James.

We knew Drew Brees was not going to come back. He was offered a similar contract here except it was like a million less over six years. I always was a big Drew Brees, from the day we drafted him from Purdue and also drafted LT I thought that the future would be looking up and he had a few excellent moments here, like that playoff run and beating the Raiders five straight games.

But I guess he had to move on and so did we, and Phili Rivers is just aching for a chance to play and next years weak schedule is the perfect teacher for a new QB so in that respect I'm pretty happy. Plus he went to New Orleans and I hope he can lift that team up and shit. Hell lets hope he can help lift up the city not just the team. I'm just gonna wait for some sort of bonus at work and I'm definitely buying a Brees Saints jersey.

TO to the Cowboys!
Reggie Bush is going to have trouble in Houston, they can't block.
I wonder what the Saints will do with the second pick now. Maybe trade down, I am sure someone will want Leinart at 2.

Thats why I bet they trade down and pick up an OT, or two. Domanick Davis already rushes for 1,000 pretty much every season and Carr is a decent QB, he just needs some protection.

Houston hates Car...wtf are they doing to him...they didnt get fergusen to block for his ass...they didnt get the lock of the century in Bush to give him a lethal weapon for him to use...Moulds/Johnson/Bush would have been one hell of an offense along with a very above average qb in Car...but they go for a DE who will most likely not meet up to the expectations that are going to be thrown at him now that he is to be a better than Bush...

fucking idiots!...

I am happy with my eagles did...2 first round picks for a 1st, 2nd and 3rd... Bunkley is going to be a force at DT and Justice was thought to be an early first round pick going to the eagles at 14 but he slipped all the way to the second round because of his off the fiel issues...(he pulled a fake gun on someone and they charged him for it, he got suspended for 2 semsters and missed last season...this season he blocked for lLeinarts blind side and did great...Eagles definitely did things that will help us this season with depth...and Bunkley can definitely come in and help out the Phreak...now Kearse wont have as much pressure on him being double and triple teamed because the rest of the line can do shit...next season our starting front 4 should be

Kearse--Bunkley/Walker- Patterson-Howard...

the Howard pickup was great in itself because he himself deserves a double team but now with the penetrating power of Bunkley the line should be a sacking force...

we also added Gocong in the 3rd round who is a hybrid DE/LB...he'll probably be groomed for the SAM position where Jones isnt doing the best...hell probably play the joker role in JJ's defense...I cant wait to see them in action...

I was hoping for Walker but Denver had to go and get him for a second rounder...I guess the other things were more important, but I also wanted us to look at Stovall from Notre Dame but he went to Tampa...

I think the starting pair of Broan and Gaffney can do some good things...along with LJ and westbrook and the ever present Mcnabb the offense should do some good things...and Brown should be that much better with another year in Reids offense...

E-A-G-L-E-S, EAGLES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope Gocong does well for you guys.

I dont really know much aboot him. He played in D 1-AA so he wasnt with the big guns but over the last two seasons he had something like 42 sacks...and this season he had 23 or so...so he can get to the qb...he doesnt have a quick first step but he is very quick once he gets going...very good motor and is that tweener player that is all the range now a days...big too at 6'2 and 263...

in the East vs. West shrine game they said he proved that he could go up against the best college has to offer and compete...

Im hoping he can do more than Matt McCoy did for us last season as a rookie LB...
jrlm8
he had something like 4.73 at the 40 for a DE thats pretty damn quick. Thats still pretty quick for a LB.
good to see a local kid get drafted by the eagles.

I agree, Houston really fucked up. What I dont understand is why so many NC State kids were taken....looking at their results, it looks like nothing impressive 7-5 (3-5). With 3 players taken in the first round, I wonder how they could have lost to unc.
Upset that Leinart dropped so far, but happy to see him in Arizona. Warner doesn't have much in the tank, maybe a year of learning and then Matt could start there. He cost himself alot of money by staying in school for this year. He would have been the first pick last year, now the 10th this year.
Reggie Bush with the saints....wow they will score at will next year. Deuce, Brees, Horn, and Bush.
I like what the Titans did too, got Vince Young in the first round and took Lendale White in the second. Lendale is a very good back, he did start over bush their sophmore seasons. As long as they keep him in shape, I think he has a good chance of being an impact player next year. Young will be a few year project.
Jeremy Bloom was just taken by the Eagles in the 5th round. Jeremy is the olympic skiier. It will be interesting to see hwo he can do.

at first I didnt recognize his name and all I saw was a 5'9 kid who had a slow 40 time...

but then when I realized he was the olympian I immediately got a smile on my face. Not only is his story a very compelling one where it shows the complete disregard for people/players the NCAA shows, but he is an incredible athlete and return man.

many of his runs and YACs are really specially...once he gets the ball in his hands he can do alot of special things. He did miss his last season and does need to put 15 pounds on his frame to get back to his playing weight but this was a great pick imo, where the eagles really struggled last year with the replacements we had at returner.

IMO the Eagles really cleaned up...they were aggresive and got 2 OL that are highly rated. Max Jean-Gilles was thought of as the best OG in the draft and has only allowed 3 sacks in over 3000 snaps. I dont care where you play that is one impressive stat. 2 players on the OL and 2 on the DL...we should be covered with depth up to our necks. Last year we were ravaged by injuries to our lines and hopefully this year with these young kids well have enough cover.

Jason Avans is a big WR and that is something the Eagles desperately need, with the likes of Pinky and Greg Lewis on the team we need someone who is going to be thrown off the line every snap...

Im very happy with our draft...
Joel.
Most notably for the Chargers in the draft was that Antonio Cromartie was our first pick and we drafted a quaterback (Charlie Whitehurst).

Matt Leinart didn't go top 10 he'll be dissapointed with that.

I'm sure Juan (Kid a) will fill you in on the rest of the Chargers shit anyhow.

he was pick 10, haha meaning he did get top ten...I think he was disapointed he wasnt the first QB taken...like jrlm8 said, if he had come out last year he would have been number 1 no doubt...he just lost a crap load of money...

bigsmile.gif well im back, sorry guys, studies have kept me away, but not away from the football and most of all, the draft.

ranting.gif laugh.gif thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif crying_new.gif what a bunch of retards the texans have, if they didnt want bush, they should have traded, they could have got a hell of alot more then just one player.

no offence to mario williams, but bush could have got them the saints pick, then some more picks in next years draft, and some offencive lineman, but they had to waste it by drafting one player.

it was pretty obvious that everybody wanted bush, and they should've taken advantage of it, what a complete waste.

to be honest, i dont think that bush is going to be all that he is hyped up to be, theres no doubt that he's going to be superb, but i dont think he'll be a player who dominates the game like rice did.

im happy with the vikes trading culppepper. brees oving to the saints, wow, what a move, the saints are going to have a huge year this year, sell out crowds in NO, farve coming back to the packers, yeppy, im a bit suprised that they traded walker but, he's a great player and sure he had a terrible injurie, but he'll be back, packers picking up charles woodson, great buy.

steelers have been a bit quite, but we dont need to improve, would like some corner backs, but what we going to do.

all i can say about this years draft, the best part was nobody picking up vick, great move falcs, i was very suprised to see leinhart to be left 10th, what the hell where the jets doing, who the hell they going to protect, pennington, he's done, its over,
CaptainCarrots
I'm more impressed with the Cowboys filling the gaps (no, not Brokeback mountain style) in the team and look strong, very strong
