I've heard it many times but I wanna know if you guys think David Beckham will ever actually come and play in the MLS.
fakemadrid
I wouldn't rule it out. Beckham loves the States where he can somewhat get away from the Paparazzi. He named his son Brooklyn for heavens sake. Look for him to strike a deal for RBNY perhaps, but not anytime soon.
Joshinho
I think he will. He also started that Soccer school or whatever in LA.

Cicinho The Great
Yes he said once he finish's his career he wants to retire in America
Mahnyounited
I hope. Beckham on any team would be awesome to see.
Juanito™
I don't think he will. We (Real Madrid) will most likely keep him for another 2 years or so. By that time he will be 32 or 33 and with his back problems i don't think he'll feel up to it.
sandesh
Beckham and America.. what a match!!
jrlm8
He will come here after he retires. If he wants to play in the MLS will all be decided by how much money the MLS can put on the table. Sure would make marketing easier for any team.

Beckham coming to Red Bull?

"Real Madrid midfield ace David Beckham is reportedly in secret talks over a $100 million deal to play for the Red Bulls, according to the British newspaper The People".
-- New York Post (10-3-06)

How can red bull pay him that much with the salary cap?...is there gonna be a change soon, that only the owners know about?..
jrlm8
the salary cap is a joke. only a portion of that 100 million deal would count towards the salary cap. ie. Freddy Adu's contract, he is paid 500k, yet only 200k counts against the salary cap. The mls has funky rules with that.
that rumor is a joke though. People...come on. I don't think Beckham is ready to come to America quite yet. Atleast Red Bulls is getting the MLS out there, well, while trying to take all of Real Madrids players.

46 Miles
I dont think it will happen, not if he signs for another 2 years with Madrid.
Wengermania
he should join D.C. United
Malu
i cant predict the long run effects of this trade if it ever takes place. but i rather have them use 100 million to get more players instead of just 1.
fguzman84
soccer wise it would make a lot more since to use that money to bring a lot of good players but business wise which is the way they are prob. looking at it beckham is a sure way to make a lot of money and gain the focus of the country and the world. He would be in countless commercials, his jersey's would sell alot...etc.
-but i agree i would rather spend that money on a lot of good players rather than just one
Romanian Magic
I think so, He just loves america too much not to come play here in the MLS.

For the past week or so, a lot of people have told me face-to-face numerous times that David Beckham is coming to play for my favourite team. They keep saying that they read about it in a newspaper article or wherever. I don't care if we get Beckham or not. Just beat D.C. United, give me a championship, and I will be happy.
Edson Buddle
do your freinds work with the mls?? or are they just fans? i think its just for the attetnion if he comes here. it would be cool to get him but we wouldnt be better with him

Real Madrid reportedly preparing to sell Beckham

So from all these reports this is what we can assume, he wants out of RM because he is riding the bench there. and RM want to off load that huge salary.
"Beckham has been strongly linked with a move to America's Major League Soccer. But a return to England's top tier would arguably give his chances of a return to the national fold under Steve McClaren a shot in the arm."
So if he goes back to england, he might have a shot at the national team again, but at what price? Could he make the 2008 euros? Are we even thinking about Becks being able to play in 2010 for england? Even though he was stripped of his captaincy and spot on the team by McClaren, would he still want to play for him?
Now assuming he does, he has stated that he could only return to Man United. Does Man United want to pay the price to get him? Does SAF want him? Does Glazer want to make his first big move for Becks?

What does this all mean to Becks though, is it too early to "hang up the boots" in his mind? Will his wife want to become a star again? Is he willing to take a huge salary cut to sell his brand in the US?

Obviously, there are alot of circumstances surronding this, but RBNY could make the move. Red Bull seems to have money, and they seem to want to make a big move like this. But LA Galaxy also want him, “Obviously, AEG (Anschutz Entertainment Group, the corporate owners of the Galaxy) has a relationship with David Beckham, with the David Beckham Academy,” Lalas admitted.
So the Becks issue seems to still be just alot of questions, and not much actually going on.
Its really hard to believe he could land in the MLS so soon, but it would be great. talk about press.

Beckham interest confirmed by Galaxy: BBC

LONDON (AFP) - The president of American club Los Angeles Galaxy has reportedly confirmed interest in former England captain David Beckham of Real Madrid.

The 31-year-old Beckham, discarded by England following the summer's World Cup, has expressed his frustration at being on the bench at Real Madrid. On Sunday he came on for just 25 minutes in the 2-1 home defeat to Celta Vigo.

"There are thousands of clubs out there that would love to have a player of his calibre," Galaxy boss Alexi Lalas said according to the BBC. "And the Los Angeles Galaxy is certainly one of them."

Beckham said back in April he was interested in the idea of ending his career in the United States however that preceded his current ousting by England and sidelining by Madrid.

"I've one year left at Real, and maybe two more after that, but things can change in football and the American league does interest me," Beckham has said.

"I want to be part of a country that is passionate about sport. And I've got my academy in LA, which is important to me because that is my life after the game."

Celtic and Spurs had reportedly also been interested in signing Beckham however those clubs have not confirmed the speculation.

"For many people the Los Angeles Galaxy are looked upon as the jewel of MLS," Lalas added.

"We play in the best stadium, we have had incredible success over the history of the league and we have had great individual players and great teams. There is a tradition of excellence.

"All of this leads to this race to become the first 'MLS super club', if you will.

"That is something we aspire to and in order to do that you have to have quality players, a direction and passion, a good coach and credibility domestically and internationally.

"Signing players of (Beckham's) stature would be a wonderful step in the right direction, not just for the Galaxy but for soccer in America."

Looks like a flood gate of past soccer gems are on their way..
"Portuguese international Luis Figo will head to MLS in 2007 on a five-year contract worth about $20 million, this according to La Opinion. Figo is in the final year of his contract with Serie A co-leaders Inter, and he will pack his bags for the United States at the end of his deal in Italy"

I wonder what team bid on him, New York?...or perhaps someone else?
but i am for this as long as it brings the much needed attension to the MLS and more money so we can sign and resign good young players from home and abroad. Go USA! Go Earthquarkes!

PS: Waiting anxiously for:
the announcement of Juergen Klinsmann as US Coach next week, and waiting for Beckham to come to LA...and lastly ...Waiting for the NEW Earthquakes to announce and show their new stadium in San Jose.(rumors are that they might get a big arena with a retractable roof)
kawandinho
good for MlS . i hope he's coming to newyork Figo is still a class player will surely get our monies worth.

IMO Figo has more left in the tank than Becks. Figo showed that he still has loads of talent at the World Cup compared to becks who didn't impress me much. But Becks is a bigger name in America and would build more interest for the sport.
