who is this Andrès Madrid i aint seen much of him as i dont really watch brag play that much

Andres Madrid is a good player. Definitely better then Beto, but if he were to come he would most likely be a player coming off the bench, rather then starting imo.

Seville is aparantly interested in Miccoli. Of course Benfica has first option on him in which we can buy him for 5million, do u guys think Viera will buy him?

i hope not but on abola his agent has denied any interest from them

this is going to be really tough game today were away to rio ave....but we should come out on top we need to win to take thewinning mentality into the barcelona game..

oh crap put this in the wrong place haha

Iin my opinion Miccoli should be signed and I'm not sure if they should trade Quim because I never seen that other player play. And the Sevilha story is BS because Benfica have first shots at signing him if they want him. He will only go there if Benfica doesn't want him which is unlikely.

Its too soon, right now the newspers will talk about it but most of it is rumours, so they can sell more papers.

Forca Benfica!!

it might be early but that is why i wrote speculaltion in the first post...its just a thread for people to place articles of players we are being linked to even if its not true.

they should sell Quim honestly we already have 2 great goalies Moreira and whatever this brasillian name is i forgot anywho im pretty sure after Moreira is going to get back his starting spot on the team and the brasillina guy will be the back up.

Apparantly talks again about Rui Costa coming back to Benfica.

On the show soccercentral (Canada) they said that Rui Costa will end his time with Milan this season and will go back to Benfica.

--------------------------------
Rui Costa set for Benfica Friday 24 March, 2006

Manuel Rui Costa will bring his Milan career to an end in favour of a return to Benfica this summer, according to reports.

Although the attacking midfielder’s contract with the Rossoneri doesn’t expire until June 2007, sources suggest that he will move back to his homeland next season.

Rui Costa has made no secret of the fact that he has always wanted to end his playing days with the Lisbon outfit.

Benfica are now said to be ready to make that happen after another frustrating season for the Portuguese ace in Italy.

The 34-year-old is now a regular on the San Siro bench given the impact made by Kaka since his arrival three seasons ago.

Rui Costa spent three years with Benfica before he moved to Serie A in 1994 when Fiorentina netted his services.

The playmaker performed for seven years at the Stadio Artemio Franchi until Milan swooped at the end of the 2000-01 campaign.

I would love for him to come back. Sure he's 34, but i still think he can offer a lot.
Em4Lyf
It would be amazing. He doesn't have much space at AC Milan but he's still great, age doesn't really matter when the player is a God. laugh.gif
briosa
Rui can stay where he is at. I cant see him at Benfica. Our ambitions are too high to include a 34 year old. We need young future Rui Costas.
Sumoloholic
Even as a super sub for us Rui Costa would be amazing. He can still change a game at his age. Just having him at the club for the younger players would be really good. Look at players like Zola and Baggio, they were class near the end of their careers and I put Rui Costa at that level
NunoGomes
I hope the rumour is true because he's too good a player to be sitting on AC Milan's bench. If he comes back he will be showing a lot of respect to SL Benfica who formed him in the clubs youth system..

Please Rui Costa come to SL Benfica and do like Joao Pinto did by going back to Boavista.

Viva o SLB!!

Respect!
mdj90
Well he wants to end his career at Benfica, I don't blame him, I can't see him on the first team though, yeah he's been great but I don't think he would leave AC Milan for Benfica unless he's not that great anymore, and he's retiring after.

Although it's been said it would be a great honour, and motivation for the youngsters on our team to be able to play with Rui Costa, as well as on the same team instead of against him.

Him coming or not, doesn't matter IMO.

Benfica monitor Pires talks

Benfica could be ready to join the cluster of clubs showing an interest in Arsenal midfielder Robert Pires.

The Gunners are keen to tie the Frenchman to fresh terms in North London and are currently in talks about a new contract.

Pires's priority is understood to be to remain with the UEFA Champions League quarter finalists but the 32-year-old would not be short of options if he decided to look elsewhere.

After landing French ace Laurent Robert from Newcastle United on loan, it has been reported in France that Benfica are exploring a potential offer for the former Marseille man.

Pires's father is said to be a huge Benfica fan but Valencia, Fiorentina, Roma and Juventus have also been linked with moves to sign a player who will be a free agent in the summer if both parties cannot come to an agreement.

Blues move for Simao

Chelsea could be set to beat rivals Liverpool to Benfica ace Simao Sabrosa.

Reports emanating from Portugal claim Chelsea are close to agreeing a deal with Benfica for the winger.

Simao has been a long-term transfer for Liverpool and he was close to moving to Anfield last summer only for Benfica to pull the plug on the deal at the last minute.

Chelsea have been keeping tabs on the former Barcelona man and it has been suggested that they are ready to make a move for Simao.

Benfica are keen to keep their captain, but they know they are likely to have to field further bids for the player when the transfer window reopens.

Blues boss Jose Mourinho is believed to be a big fan of Simao and sees him as a key addition to his star-studded squad at Stamford Bridge.

Simao has admitted in the past he would be interested in a move to England and Chelsea's financial muscle would mean Benfica would find it hard to resist their overtures.

Should Simao seal a move to West London he could be one of three new signings Mourinho wants for next season.

Chelsea are already in talks with German star Michael Ballack and Mourinho believes he needs three new faces to freshen his squad up this summer with departures expected at Stamford Bridge.

"We change three players," Mourinho told The Times. "Three players who want to play more and are not very happy in the club, or some players I am frustrated with and have nothing to give us.

"I change them for three other players. I would say three players will come in in the summer. It is the natural process.

"We have a good squad, players at a good age, not players finishing their career. [Claude] Makelele is the oldest player [33] and he looks the youngest one.

"We don't have big needs. The natural tendency is we get a defender, a midfielder and an attacker."

Rui Costa mulls return to Benfica

Time is GMT + 8 hours
Posted: 18-Apr-2006 22:10 hrs

AC Milan's Portuguese midfielder Rui Costa has said he might return to Lisbon-based Benfica if the Italian side does not hand him a contract for next season.

"Returning never ceased being a dream of many Benfica presidents. But we still have not reached an agreement," the daily newspaper Correio da Manha quoted the 34-year-old player as saying.

Costa joined Fiorentina from Benfica in 1994. The playmaker signed a five-year contract with AC Milan in July 2001 in a deal worth 33 million euros (40 million dollars).

He retired from international football in July 2004 after the end of the European football finals in which hosts Portugal finished in second place.

Portuguese champions Benfica currently lie in third place in the 18-team league, trailing leaders FC Porto by nine points after 31 games. — AFP

if my lack of portuguese serves me right this is saying that we are in talks with trying to sign cadu. to be honest i haven't seen much of him so i couldn't possibly say, only seen him play against benfica as thats the only portuguese footie i watch

Cadu would not be a bad signing in my opinion especially with one of our defenders certain to leave, most likely Rocha who is underated. I rather see Ze Castro or Joao Paulo signed however. Don't forget we already have Jose Fonte bigsmile.gif
Also according to Record Luisao's agent stated that he is very happy at the club and Benfica wants him to stay and that he also wants to stay. I love the way Luisao plays for Benfica because he shows real heart for the team and it would be sad to ever see him leave. So hopefully this is true. Forca Luisao! cheers1.gif

Rui Costa wants answers
IPB Image

Former Portugal international Rui Costa says he is likely to quit or leave Milan in the summer, following a lack of regular first team action at the club.

The 34-year-old has only made 10 Serie A appearances this season and did not feature in the UEFA Champions League game with Barcelona, although he was on the bench.

The playmaker is awaiting an answer on his position with the club before he decides whether to quit the game or move back to one of his former clubs.

"I strongly believe in myself," he told Portuguese television. "I'm convinced I could help Milan again, but Galliani and Ancelotti must also be convinced of this.

"I have another year's deal, but they must tell me if they plan to use me again. I don't want to be wasted. That's the reason I left the national team.

"If Milan don't believe in me I'll find another solution.

"There are two possible outcomes in that scenario: if I can't find an adequate solution, I'll stop playing, but if I consider myself able to carry on, I'd like to go back to Benfica or Fiorentina," he said.

He moved to The San Siro from Fiorentina, in the summer of 2001, for £28 million and will be hoping to feature in Milan's last four league games.

Milan are second in the league, five points behind Juventus, and still have an outside chance of winning Serie A.

Blackburn in for £3.5million Juve striker

Fabrizio Miccoli is a summer target for Rovers boss Mark Hughes according to reports this morning

The 26-year-old Italian international is currently on loan with Benfica and will make a permanent exit from Juventus at the end of the season.

Sevilla and Palermo are keen on a deal for the forward, while Benfica would also like to keep Miccoli in Portugal where he has performed well this season as his side reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

It's important that Benfica keep Miccoli IMO, he's been a very good player and the kind of forward we need to partner Nuno Gomes because he can't play as a lone forward effectively.

Fulham brace for Boa Morte bids

Fulham boss Chris Coleman expects to lose captain Luis Boa Morte at the end of this season.

Newcastle and Benfica are both tracking the 27-year-old Portuguese forward who is disappointed at the way Fulham's season has fizzled out again.

Boa Morte signed a new five-year contract in September but his teammates believe he will leave Craven Cottage this summer, says the Mirror.

Boa Morte is still ambitious and Fulham will not turn down £5million even though it means they will lose their skipper.

Rovers deny Miccoli move

Blackburn have dismissed speculation linking them with a move for Benfica star Fabrizio Miccoli.

Reports over the weekend had suggested Mark Hughes was considering a £3.5 million offer for the Italian who is on loan to the Portuguese outfit from Juventus.

Miccoli impressed in his side's run to the UEFA Champions League quarter finals but Rovers executive chairman John Williams claims the forward has not been under consideration by Hughes.

"We are looking at home and abroad for players, but that's not a name I've heard mentioned," Williams told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph.

Benfica are believed to have first option to sign the player at the end of his loan spell next month.

The club have also dismissed suggestions that star striker Craig Bellamy is a target for Tottenham.

"It's pure speculation as far as I'm concerned," added Williams.

"Every week a different one of our players is getting linked with a move elsewhere in the national press, but we've said all along we want to keep hold of our best players."

Benfica set sights on Svard

Benfica are pondering a move for former Arsenal defender Sebastian Svard.

The Dane has impressed at Vitoria Guimaraes since leaving Arsenal last summer.

Svard's performances in Portugal have caught the attention of Benfica and the player's agent Karsten Aabrink revealed several sides including Benfica were keeping tabs on him.

"It is correct that Benfica have shown interest the last six months or so," Aabrink told Onside.dk.

"Sebastian has had a great season at Guimaraes. Although the club have not had a particularly good season.

"But he has delivered the goods and several Portuguese clubs are interested in him."

Sebastian Svärd (born January 15, 1982 in Hvidovre, Denmark) is a Danish football player who currently plays for Vitória de Guimarães in Portugal.

In his native country, he started out at FC Copenhagen, and had already become somewhat of a prodigy, impressing the coaches of the Denmark under-15, under-16, under-18 and under-21 national teams.

He was bought by English club Arsenal for an undisclosed fee in November 2000, and won the FA Youth Cup with the club in his first season. His first-team Arsenal debut came on November 5, 2001, in a 4-0 drubbing of opponents and bitter rivals Manchester United F.C., a game which saw a hat-trick from French forward Sylvain Wiltord, although he failed to make another Arsenal appearance until the corresponding match the next year, playing the first 80 minutes of a 2-3 defeat to Sunderland on November 6, 2002.

Returning to his old club Copenhagen in August 2003, in need of first-team play, he switched after just four months to Stoke City, for whom he played nine league matches and scored one goal before moving back to Arsenal. In August 2004, he was loaned to Danish club Brøndby IF for the whole season.

In July 2005 he left Arsenal to join Vitória for an undisclosed fee.

How have his performances for Guimaraes been?

Daniel Carvalho Wanted by: Bayern Munich, Benfica
The Brazilian midfielder must surely head out of CSKA Moscow at some stage soon - the only surprise is that it didn’t happen after his man-of-the-match performance inspired the club to victory in the Uefa Cup final against Sporting Lisbon last season.
Carvalho is only 22 and Bayern Munich are believed to see him as the perfect replacement for Ballack. Carvalho has been linked with Benfica, but seems certain to hold out until one of Europe’s bigger clubs makes a play for his services. CSKA will be looking for at least Pounds 14m

Looks like André Luís will be returing from his loan at Marseille because they are not gonna cough up the 6million dollar option. Will be intresting if he returns and plays under Koeman or whoever because he was in the same team that one the Brasilian Championship with Leo, Robinho and Diego. He didn't impress me at first with Benfica but I still rate him a good player. If he does return we will have too many centre backs!

Tiago no meio-campo

We have lost at least one important player after every season, so I wouldn't be shocked it if happens again.
bob dylan
That's the problem with having a certain degree of financial instability. The entire Benfica transfer process is perplexing at times regarding some of the players that come in and some of the players that leave, it doesn't make sense at times. We don't produce excellent talents at a rate high enough to sell them regularly every summer transfer window, which leaves our squad depleted as we try to get money to bulk up the squad but ultimately waste it on below-par players, which is an extreme disappointment in my eyes within the organisation.

Building on previous comments, here's a report linking Simao to the Viola.

Simão transfer saga takes Italian twist
Liverpool and Chelsea out of running for Benfica captain

The Simão transfer saga has taken a new twist, with reports from Italy suggesting Fiorentina are preparing to make an offer for the Benfica captain.

The Portugal international has been linked with a move to Liverpool throughout the season, with Chelsea also thought to be interested.

However, both Premiership clubs yesterday denied Simão is one of their summer targets.

Fiorentina, for whom Portuguese stars Rui Costa and Nuno Gomes played, are keen to strengthen their squad as they make a push for a Champions League place next season.

Simão’s impressive performances in this year’s competition have apparently persuaded Fiorentina’s director-general, Pantaleo Corvino, to pencil in the Benfica winger to boost the club’s attack.

Benfica: Luisão Open To Offers

In the wake of Mantorras, who left for Angola yesterday, Luisão swapped Portugal for southern latitudes as the towering centre-back prepared to cramp himself into a São Paulo flight as Benfica continues to release players with World Cup responsibilities for an early break.

Carlos Alberto Parreira is due to announce the definitive list of 23 players that’ll try to bring home the ‘Hexa’ (sixth World Cup) in Germany in just over a month’s time. Luisão is jockeying to join Parreira favourites Juan and Lúcio in the running for a centre-back slot.

Parreira is slated to take two more defenders to Europe, but is still in doubt between Olympique Lyon’s Cris (ex-Cruzeiro), Benfica’s own Luisão (ex-Cruzeiro) and Roque Júnior (ex-Palmeiras / Milan) in a threesome originating in two very Italo-Brazilian clubs. One of them will be ruled out in just six days time.

As to his club intentions, the stopper told journalists at Lisbon’s Portela airport that “I leave Lisbon with the firm intention of reporting back to Benfica, but things can always change, doors can open, although I must stress that my current loyalty is to Luz” he added.

As to Koeman’s sudden swap of Benfica for PSV, Luisão trusted in his President. “It’s always hard to adjust to sudden changes, but I’m sure that José Veiga will find a successor worthy of the honour of helming Benfica” the Brazilian concluded.

I really like Luisão... hopefully he stays. He has leadership qualities and is a world class defender. Very valuable, so if he is open to offers hopefully Benfica will receive a huge transfer fee.

To be honest, I don't like him that much. In the air he's dominant, which is why he played quite well against English opposition ie United/Liverpool however against teams that play the ball on the ground for the majority of the game he tends to get skinned too easily. Strong, dominant in the air, but susceptible to skillful, fast players. He was here and there for Benfica IMO, would make a couple of mistakes but they would be forgotten because he tends to score important goals every now and again.

Robert eyes Gers switch

Laurent Robert has issued a come-and-get-me plea to Rangers.

Rangers are reported to be interested in signing the Benfica winger as Paul Le Guen begins his rebuilding plans at Ibrox.

Robert has welcomed Rangers' interest and admits he would be keen on a move to Ibrox.

The Frenchman has endured an indifferent time at Benfica since his switch in January from Newcastle.

Robert, who came close to joining Rangers before moving to Newcastle, admits he would like to play for Le Guen.

"I would love to play for Paul Le Guen," Robert told skysports.com.

"I have spoken to him and I would be interested in a move to Rangers.

"I know their chairman as I have spoken to him in the past and they are a massive club.

"It would be down to the two clubs, but I would be interested in playing for Rangers.

"I had the chance to go there before I went to Newcastle and maybe I should have gone then.

"It is not about money, I would like to finish my career at a top club and Rangers would be a big opportunity."
