Deisler ruled out of World Cup
Berlin: Germany midfielder Sebastian Deisler will miss the World Cup because of a knee injury, the German Football Association (DFB) said on Saturday.

An arthroscopy performed in the United States showed the 26-year-old midfielder needs surgery on his knee and will be out of action for six months.

Deisler has had four operations on his right knee, one of which meant he missed the 2002 World Cup.

He sustained the latest injury in a clash with England midfielder Owen Hargreaves during Bayern training on Tuesday.

The operation will be performed by American knee specialist Richard Steadman at his clinic in Vail, Colorado. Deisler should be back in Germany in about a week.

One of few truly creative players Germany possess and a great crosser of the ball, Deisler is an automatic choice for Germany when fully fit and his injury is a terrible blow to national coach Juergen Klinsmann’s World Cup hopes.

Deisler was hailed as a unique talent when he was a teenager but his promising career has been hobbled by injury. He was sidelined for five months in the 2003-04 season while being treated for depression.

what do you guys think? how bad does that hit the team? who should get his spot on the team for the wc? and the big question.... is it time for scholl to come back? whistling.gif

no really, it sucks, because deisler was getting better and found his way back and i know the wc was his big dream and now that was it. i hope he gets well as soon as possible!

get well, basti fantasti!
Giacinto Facchetti.
this gives jimmy bullard a even better chance of a call up cheers1.gif

Bad news indeed, doesn't make our WC weaker but still sucks.

I am pretty sure that we won't call up Jimmy Bullard, why should we?
God of Football
SH*T ! DAMn that really sucks i really wanted to see a strong german team sad.gif . anyways give bullard a chance , what about haman ?
energy41
Hamann has a chance maybe, even we have several players to play his role.
If not too many players are injured I guess he won't be part of the squad.
I can't see Scholl in there too, Klinsmann won't call him up, I think.
God of Football
yeah he is a ''way too old'' , but he would bring experience skill and criativity to the squad thats a fact that klinsman should look at carefully .
he used to be one of my fav player back in 2000/2001

I hope Trochowski gets a chance to take his place, but i doubt it will happen.Im not a big fan of Deisler,he didnt show much in his career, but has a high standing in Germany. His crosses are very good, but his soccer iq is somewhere around zero.
Its Trochowskis first season, but i think he showed more class than Deisler ever did.He has very good technical abilitys, he lacks experience, but i still think he can help Germany cause there are not many creative players around.

Poor Deisler. He has just no luck. Everytime when I think now he can finally show what he is able to do and then that. I have seen the pics when it happened. So stupid. I am very sorry for him.

And as much as I would love to see Scholl, I think Klinsi will call up a younger one. I have no idea who can replace him.

Hm, can't agree with that.
I am not Deisler biggest fan too, but in his young days with Gladbach and Berlin he showed some very nice stuff.
He hasn't developed as expected though, unluckily due to his bad luck with injuries.

deisler could have been a great player, but sadly, aswell as scholl, he sufferd too many injuries in his youth and it just keeps getting worse. then there is this problem with his psyche and he is very close to depression.

its sad to see how the young great talents like him get knocked out before they can shine. i hope he will get well soon.

and i agree with energy... trochowski is far from being as skillful as deisler. good player, no doubt, but not that good. still i would like to see him in the german nt!
