i just came across this article about de rossi of roma, about him owning up to a handball goal that had been allowed!!! (if only drogs wd read that) anyway, i just wanted to find out how people rate him as a midfielder. i watched him last season and he was a good box to box player although a bit defensive minded. have not followed him recently, but i always felt he has the potential to become a really good complete midfielder. have any of you been watching him in recent games? what do you think?
rado907
he's a full italian international and one of the best midfielders in europe.
he recently captained roma for the first time...

he's a great asset for the club.

thats good to know. how would you compare him to some of the other upcoming midfielders who are being chased by the big clubs ie diarra n mascherano. and is he more of a defensive midfielder or is he also good going forward?
Tozz
I rate him.. ..so freakin' high that it's not true. seriously, I love the guy

Last season i didnt really see what all the fuss was about, but now all the Roma midfielders have stepped up a gear or 2, ALL of them, Perrota, Aquilani and De Rossi and the 3 have all really impressed me, but De Rossi is the one who has impressed most. Seems to get everywhere. As for how i rate him in relation to other midfielders, he is still behind Gattuso and Pirlo in the Italian rankings anyway...i guess he could be considered the Italian Scott Parker...deserves more credit and can do any CM job required of him to a very good standard.
A.K.
thats good to know. n i think at roma he gets the importance he needs. will try and watch a few roma games. really want to see for myself what he's all about. than everyone for your opinions.

offtopic: any idea when the next roma game is?
rado907
man, it's vs juve away this week... late game on sunday probably.
but totti, chivu and de rossi are all injured. its terrible.

and then we have the palermo return tie and the fiorentina away game... why jesus why are the three best players injured? hell even the goalies (doni and curci) are injured. now if mancini gets injured as well that's it.
A.K.
yeah, tough luck with all the injuries. and juve wd have been a tough game any way. had forgotten abt de rossi's injury after the last game. shame to be playing a big game with important players injured.

and if my memory serves me right, chivu has always been a bit of an injury prone player hasnt he??
gwong
De Rossi is an exciting player to watch...lotsa room for improvement..will get better and better.

Btw, Juve will win the clash with Roma this week. rolleyes.gif

If only Pedersen had woned up to it too.. nothing said about that in the papers of by yourself smile.gif Someone else that done it aswell so please just single out Droggers like hes the only one that has done it, really gets on some peoples nerves smile.gif.

However, I was watching Chelsea TV earlier and a caller mentioned De Rossi coming to Chelsea, do you guys think he would be able to adapt to the EPL? Is he a good technical player? doh.gif please describe him smile.gif Thanks!

De Rossi is a good player to watch. The better he keeps playing, the more his skills will improve.

frankly i think he would adapt perfectly to the epl. he's agile and quick, strong in the air and got a wicked shot, and technically very complete. he just needs to think with his head sometimes instead of charging in headstrong, then he would be a perfect midfielder.

Daniele De Rossi? How is he doing this season, you ask? Yeah alright I guess, he's playing well, would make for good cover for the midfield monster's of Carrick and O'Shea in United's midfield...

Ok ok, lets get serious, first try to put my bias aside and take into account I like watching a lot of football from any league in Europe. So, here it is – Daniele De Rossi is the best defensive-midfielder in Europe, bar none.

Daniele has everything you would want for your holding midfielder. There is not a team in the world he would not get into. From being a man-monstor-all-conquering-destructive-tough-as-shit defensive player, he also offers so much more. He is becoming and more complete as each game goes by, and the scary thing is he can become even better and better. And better. He is one of those players who may not get the headlines all the time, but yet he does all the hardwork and mopping up and his ability on the ball is top-class, as was seen in the return-leg against Lyon. He is a top reader of the game, and often covers if a defender is out of position, and alot of the time sits in front of Mexes and Chivu and annilates anything which comes within a sniff of his breathing space. He is also strong as an ox in the air, a great passer off the ball, a (fast becoming) set-piece specialist (this season he is sharing free-kicks with Totti), and possesses a rocket of a long-range shot.

This season he has been outstanding, without doubt, but has been limited in his chances to get forward more, as he has done to great effect in previous seasons. As his midfield partnership with Pizarro has progressed, they have formed an understanding of each other's game. De Rossi wins the ball back, Pizarro passes it on. Well, more or less like. Pizarro is more the deep lying playmaker who moves forward with the ball while DDR hangs back. Of course he still gets forward and will smack a few rockets from distance, but not as much as before. He is not so much a box-to-box midfielder – comparable to Gerrard (I suppose) – than a man-monstor-all-conquering-destructive-tough-as-shit defensive-midfielder this season, but still he can do the former role to great effect if required. There is no better defensive-midfielder in European football right now.

dreamlander
Gotta say, i agree one hundred per cent with RomaShield above. DDR has been a walkover for the best central midfielder this season, with maybe only Paul Scholes running him close, but as for defensive midfielders, even my beloved Rino Gattuso has been left trailing in the Roman destroyers wake. He has been an absolute monster and is one of the main reasons why Roma can afford to let, effectively, 4 midfielders play as trequiristas as he holds down the forth. Perrota, Taddei, Mancini and Totti all have licence to be free roaming with minimal responsability and Pizarro himself is able to wander and go search for the ball, simply because they all know De Rossi has them covered.

I used have a problem with him discipline wise. I know all DMs have a tendency to go in a little too hard from time to time and do some unnecessary damage (ie McBride elbow in the World Cup) but this season even that nasty side of his game has been pretty exemplary. His passing and tackling are getting crisper and more better all the time and he has the stamina to chase and hold opposing midfields on his own. Couple this with having 2 of the best, coming-into-their-prime-defenders in World Football, in Chivu and Mexes behind him, Roma have one of the solidest and most exciting bases from which to let their offensive players do whatever the hell they want.

He is constantly improving his attacking part to his game as well. His shooting is something resembling that of a cannon and his aerial stregth is very impressive as well. It helps Roma out tremendously as other than the 2 center backs and maybe Panucci, they dont have many guys all that skilled in the air, but between these 3 or 4, they seem to cope fantastically with any aerial threats launched at their goal.

Is Daniele de Rossi as important to Roma as Totti is? Quite possibly if you ask me!
RomaShield27
De Rossi is certainly as important to Roma as Totti is, no question. We dont really have a natural replacement for him in our squad (we are not Inter). Faty is a very promising young player but we do lack that someone else who can do the defensive side of midfielder if (touch wood) De Rossi is ever missing. But De Rossi has made the most appearances for Roma this season – 35 games in all competitions – which shows how crucial he is to this Roma side.

And about his agression, as I am sure a lot people will probably mentioned that elbow in the WC, he is a very agressive and tough player, but he is also a fair player. He is honest – as seen when he told the ref to disallow a goal he scored using his hand – and a true leader on the pitch. For that elbow on McBride, it can be argued all day if he meant it or not, I believe he didn't, but these things happen all the time when physical players compete for a high-ball. But because there was so much made about it in the media and he was made out to be the bad guy, everyone remembers it? Who remembers Fred's elbow against Lyon in the second-leg of the CL when he broke Christian Chivu's nose? He didn't get caught for it, but now there is an investigation about it and he will get a suspension, and certainly there was a hell of lot more intent to damage his opponent than De Rossi's in the WC. This season, like DL said, he has improved his discipline and matured more as a player, while at the same time taking nothing away from his sheer power and strenght to win the ball.
superpippo!
Now i got to say I agree with RomaShefield27!

De Rossi is amazing he is a great player! And one of the best DM's right now! I have always said he is going to mean to Roma what Totti does to them. Even if they play in different positions De Rossi is going to be the next hero there!

He really is a great talent and it was a shame to see his WC crippled by that incident. A real pity because now everyone remembers him like that, and not for his real ability! He has had a great season for Roma and he has calmed down a but! Even towards the end of last seaosn he had calmed down. His Red Card in the WC was hos first since December or somethign like that!

I love thus player and I hope his herat remains strong to Roma...

Here's a video i found on youtube showcasing Daniele De Rossis goals for Roma. I love the one on 2.30 for 2 reasons.

Number 1, it showcases an attribute a lot of people don't notice in DDR, aerial strength and excellent heading technique. I feel that not many people appreciate the amount of headers he wins in midfield or in either penalty box at the end of set plays. Alot of people focus on his tackling and passing and control and bravery, but he is also one of the best aerial players in Italy i think

Number 2, gotta love the celebration....a good ol fashioned pile on. It pretty much typifies Roma. The moral and camaraderie and team spirit is clearly evident in those kinda celebrations and this transfers through onto their field play.

Damn I just admire De Rossi so much even more than Totti! He's so complete! Perfect! Anyway I haven't watched Italian footie for so long and I just watched him in the match against Manchester and though he wasn't really amazing, you could just see and 'feel' how complete he is. Sooo similar to Xavi but better defensively IMO. And from what I've read, pretty classy character too.

Reports are saying Barça want De Rossi and though I'm excited with a capture of a player of such high quality, I kinda dont want that.. I mean it's like Barça losing Xavi. An icon. If im not mistaken, Daniele's a local boy, right? Yeah. So, something to connect with the fans too.

Anyway, I wanna ask you Roma fans one thing : I read that Daniele is a Cavaliere. Is that true? If so, how did he get it?

yes,he came through the roma youth system and has never played for another club. his father was also a roma player. however, i don't see him leaving roma to be honest i consider him as the next totti for the club and the fans look at him as the next il capitano. so he's staying.

well you don't know what can happen in the Future, but the thing is he wants to be the city idol just like totti is now. i remember reading an interview with him a long time ago where he said he'll never leave the club because he wants to break all the record and sign his name in the club histroy! plus he's the best DM in italy for me so i don't see why we would let him go at all!

as for the Cavaliere, yeah it means Cavalier in english obviously tongue.gif

Top members list? Yay! clapping.gif i think i've liked Roma since they had Kappa and Mazda on their shirts i think... around 2002 or 2003.. well actually thats around the same time I started getting crazy into Barça really. De Rossi makes Roma pledge

Daniele De Rossi has pledged his future to Roma and will stay with the Giallorossi even if they fail to win any trophies.

The midfielder, who turned 24 today, has been paired with several important clubs including Barcelona and Inter, but insists that his future will remain in the capital.

“I can only imagine myself with this outfit,” De Rossi told the website Romanews.eu.

“I admit I thought about the fact that you cannot be sure of winning a lot here, even if you stay for 10 or 15 years,” added the world champion.

“However, you can be great in Rome even without winning and this cannot be compared to the victories I might obtain with another outfit. If you win here, you become a part of history.”

De Rossi also stated that he is sorry to hear Cristian Chivu will probably leave the Giallorossi in the summer to join Inter.

“I am sorry to see him go, also because he will strengthen one of our direct competitors and that will not favour us.

“I still hope he solves all the pending issues with the club and decides to stay with us,” urged the Italy international.

The Giallorosso then commented on Francesco Totti’s decision to quit the Azzurri, as confirmed by the Roma captain himself last Friday.

“I am sorry that we will no longer play together for the Nazionale, he is a champion and a friend,” said the midfielder.

“He said that I will be the next one to be criticised because I am Roman? There might be some truth in that, but I am not afraid. I have always faced my responsibilities,” ended De Rossi.
ForzaItalia2006
De Rossi is set to agree to extend his contract til 2012 at 2.5mil euros per season. Way to go Daniele.

Great news really, and he will be the the second player in Roma with a wage more than 1.7 Million.

He deserves the pay.

Manchester United Football Club can take a close look at Daniele De Rossi in the coming weeks.

Once again the Reds come face to face with Italian giants AS Roma in the UEFA Champions League, following last season's quarter-final clash in which United scored an amazing 7-1 home win.

This will give Sir Alex Ferguson another opportunity to take a look at midfielder De Rossi, who has been amongst the Scot's most fancied players over the past few seasons.

Reports in his homeland suggest the Italian international is aware of the interest in him, and Roma hope to counter this by offering him £8.5million over five seasons as well as the club captaincy if he stays in the capital.

so he didn't sign the contract yet??
Il Gio
Ugh, more of these stories. DDR = Roma's new captain after Totti. Aquilani = Roma's vice captain after Panucci/Montella/DDR.

Enough with these BS stories, DDR won't leave!
urbanlegend
The Romans will not leave the club no matter what is offered. That's like saying Raul and Guti will be leaving for Barca soon.

Rumors.
Il Gio
Wouldn't anyone be intrested in seeing DDR in Perrotta's role?

I'm not saying throw Perrotta to the bench, but considering that Perrotta's game mostly relies on speed and stamina, and taking into account that he is 30, he most likely has 2 or 3 seasons left in him (at that position). I'd like to one day see DDR in that position, would be cool seeing how he does.
urbanlegend
Mmmm not too certain what I'd like to see in that situation.

De Rossi wanted more

Daniele De Rossi was disappointed with Roma’s defeat in Manchester, as he felt they had earned “at least a draw.”

The 1-0 loss at Old Trafford was decided by Wayne Rooney’s strike, but the Italians had several good scoring opportunities and a penalty shout for Amantino Mancini.

“It is tough and we feel rather bitter, as we played well and I think the draw was the very least we deserved,” said the World Cup winning midfielder.

“The next matches will be decisive and the fact we lost 1-0 at Old Trafford after a great performance was entirely acceptable. It just feels like a shame we were unable to get the points, especially after such a horrible result as the 4-1 to Inter on Saturday.”

It has been a worrying trend of the last few weeks that Roma waste dozens of opportunities and end up dropping points.

“We have always scored a lot of goals. It is true that we create so much that it looks as if we waste an incredible amount, but in a way that is a compliment. Soon hopefully we will have that little bit more luck.”

De Rossi’s midfield partner Alberto Aquilani was stretchered off with a suspected thigh strain during the second half.

“Aquilani feels pain, but he has to undergo the usual tests. We hope for the team and especially for him that it is nothing serious, as he has had muscular problems in the past,” explained the Italian international.

“He had a similar injury last year, so he’s been very unlucky and we hope it is not as bad as those times.”

I agree with him, and am very worried about Aquilani.

De Rossi: Scotland? No problem

Azzurri midfielder Daniele De Rossi has no doubts that Italy will overcome Scotland and qualify for Euro 2008. “They’re not at our level.”

Roberto Donadoni’s men know that unless other results go their way nothing less than a victory at Hampden will book them a place in Austria and Switzerland.

While Italy have never won in Scotland and Gigi Buffon has admitted he is scared the world champions may not get maximum points, De Rossi has played down the threat.

“In my opinion, Scotland will never be at our level,” the Roma star scoffed. “Failing to qualify would be serious, but I think we have the personnel to succeed.

“It’s not as difficult as people say – all we have to do is win in Scotland. I’m still hoping that Georgia could stop them and save us the trouble though.”

De Rossi also gave his opinion on the decision to ban away fans from Roma’s Stadio Olimpico encounter against Napoli this weekend.

“In a closed stadium nobody gets killed so it’s better to make this decision,” he claimed.

“It’s time to take a step forward and stop this stupidity of coming to the ground to hurt others.”

De Rossi will captain Italy for the first time in Wednesday's friendly against South Africa in Siena.

Daniele De Rossi è l'umiltà. Il centrocampista della Roma, che nella gara contro il Sudafrica di mercoledì indosserà per la prima volta dall'inizio la fascia di capitano, ha deciso di mollare la maglia azzurra numero 10.
