Match Analysis End of Day 2 - Beginning of Day 3

Australia on the ropes, surprisingly at 7-167. Bangladesh have played above themselves for the entire test match so far. They've made a big first innings score and they've followed it up with tight bowling. They've chanced their arm against Shane Warne and for some odd reason its actually come off, although I think Warne was suffering from an injury. They've got to be careful with their do or die approach against Warnie. They're prepared to use their feet against him but if it doenst come off in the second innings then Warne will rip them to shreads. Bowling from Bangladesh has been of high quality, surprising the art of bowling miserly on this pitch will get wickets. Although now its important they dont let Gilchrist get away from them. When looking at his record he has fantastic stats of making enormous scores once he reaches 50+. If they allow Gilchrist to get away from them, he'll turn the match on its head with his destructiveness.
My Prediction: Match Still in the Balance but Bangladesh need to get Gilchrist. If Australia avoid the follow on, the match will swing Australia's way, Bangladesh have a horrible 2nd innings record and against Australia's quality attack I can see a re-occurence. However, if Australia are forced to follow on, they should manage victory.
Donny
At Lunch Australia 226/7
Brett Lee went early but Gillchrist is playing on 104 and has looked quite comfortable. It is a very good knock considering he isnt 100% fit. Jason is playing his natural game tongue.gif 24 runs of 77 balls. Follow on is out of the question because 1 run needed
Courtsy
Yay, we avoided the follow on smile.gif
Damn, I sound like an England supporter laugh.gif
Donny
good to see aussies supporting the underdogs
Dingo.

Gilly with a great knock of 144 got Aussies somewhere back on track but eventually all out for 269. Bangladesh currently 41-0 and looking in control, that Nafees fella looks on his way to another big score. thumbsup.gif

EDIT: Bangladesh now 58-2, so much for my prediction of Nafees getting another big score.
F4Evo
damn how i hoped for an innings victory smile.gif
Courtsy
4/103 now, some good bowling and Gilchrist's innings have got us back into it.
Go Aussies beer.gif
Donny
Bangladesh are 117/4 Gilchrist missed an easy stumping again , kinda wierd he is making so many errors in the same game , he is usually very safe. But hey he has saved aussies but by scoring 144 smile.gif

Dont care how it comes but bangladesh have to win!!! I really hate the aussie cricket team as you can probably tell.
Varun.
no aussies wont lose this one imo, they'll scratch a draw
Donny
no ways varun it cant be a draw. Bangladesg have lost 5 wickets and in my opinion they can maximum play around 3 hours more and they will set up a target like 350 max and that can be easily chased by the aussies.
livindavidalampard
I reckon the Aussies will win, can't see Bangladesh bowling them all out again. sad.gif
aussie_pride
Shane Warne back to his best. Again Bangladesh tried to dominate and failed. I'd be even more worried for them now that hes landing his flipper. We could see some slaughter in the next test. Bangladesh could possibly have thrown away a golden opportunity of victory. But they have a more than defendable target of 306 runs. We're in for a thrilling finish.
chris.
Australia is 31/0 needing another 276 to win. It seems as though Australia is going to win, but nevertheless Bangladesh has really pushed the 2nd best test team in the world and it shows how much they are improving.
Donny
307 to win and they Australia are 51/0. please god let bangladesh win tongue.gif
Courtsy
1/72 now. We really don't deserve to win this.
Donny
come Enamul And Rafique force another huge collapse!!!!!! I am sure if one or two more wickets fall they are certainly back in the game
Dingo.

Well Bangladesh need 6 wickets tomorrow to win and the Aussies need 96 to win. I think with the amount of wickets in hand Aussies should win this one but if Bangladesh can grab a few early wickets then who knows.

Whatever the outcome of this match Bangladesh should be so pleased how they have done against the best team in the world. I think they have performed that good that they will be dissapointed if they lose this one from here. Theyve shown that they wont just turn up and expect a thrashing theyll give it a good try against any team, what they have done in this match especially in the first innings with the bat and ball was excellent and good on them. thumbsup.gif

On the contrary, I think the Aussies have taken them lightly. I mean they decided to give players like Michael Clarke and Jason Gillespie another go and they only played six batsmen. I think the Aussies have been kind of arrogant in regards to this match. Mohammad Rafique, is IMO Bangladesh's one true world class player and hes performed so well. I think Bangladesh would be devestated if they dont win this test, I mean they were in the best position that any team has had in recent years to put the Aussies away. I mean even the English werent in such a position as this during the Ashes. All Bangladesh needed to do was score about 220 runs and it would be over pretty much. Also its interesting to note that the Aussies didnt have time to climatise and adapt to the pitches and I think thats why it caught them by surprise in the first innings. But like the champions they are, they adapted and capitalised. Regardless of the result it has been a fantastic game of cricket.
Donny
Australia win by three wickets. The credit of this victory of Australia should go to Ponting and Mcgill. Jason Gillespie made a very nice comeback. Bangladesh well they might not have such a chance to win a test against australia in the recent future but they tried hard and gave a great fight. In the second innings the Nafez was clearly overconfident and spread all over the team , only of they had batted like an hour more they have given a target like 370/380 which would have been very hard. Full credit to aus they stuck in their and got the win
Courtsy
No way we deserved to win that. No way.
Donny
i never said that they deserved to win or not mate smile.gif
i just said they stuck in their like champions would do and they got the win

Ok heres my Analysis of the Match:

Australia: Will be very very disappointed with their performance but at the same time proud. They didnt have alot of time to adapt to the dead wickets of Bangladesh but that is no excuse, the world champions should be able to adapt to all conditions. Raps should go to all the bowlers who came back very well after they got taken to the cleaners in the first dig. In particular Stuart MacGill and Jason Gillespie both bowled beautifully and Gillespie, IMO opinion has just booked a place in the side for the Ashes tour. Warne also came back well showing he couldnt be conquered. The batsman were fairly ordinary for most of the test I'd have to say. Michael Clarke and Damien Martyn both have question marks above their heads regarding their positions in the side. Clarke again just doesnt seem to cut it at test level and should be dropped for the next test and how many times have we seen Damien Martyn fall to off spin which happened again in this test. Adam Gilchrist batted beautifully in the first innings scoring a blistering century and Ricky Ponting played a true captains knock to win the game for Australia. Fielding was at its normal high level from the Australians.

Bangladesh: Will be hanging their heads wondering how they managed to lose this one but when they think about it they wont be surprised as Australia aren't the world champions for nothing. They will learn the lesson that test cricket is a game of five days and they played competitively throughout four of the five days. However in saying this they played above themselves and Australia wont take them lightly ever again. Shahriar Nafees played a brilliant knock of 138 and played well against the spinners. Habibul Bashar played a great supporting role, as did Rajin Saleh. However as well as they batted in the first innings they will be livid at the fact that they couldnt pass 200 in the second innings which would have put the game out of Australia's reach. I mentioned this in my preview in a previous post but Bangladesh have a shocking record in their second innings when batting. This needs to improve. Bowling was of a good quality and Mohammad Rafique is their one world class bowler who can bowl well on sub-continent pitches and didnt he show it when he squared up Damien Martyn and Adam Gilchrist. A promising effort by the Deshies but the two areas of weakness are learning not to let teams off the hook and making a decent second innings total if they are going to win matches.

Here are my ratings of the players in the test.

Australia

Matthew Hayden (6) Failed in the first innings but played a crucial knock in the second. Fielded well at slip
Mike Hussey (6) In his new role as opener made two starts on his first trip to the sub continent
Ricky Ponting (8) Played a match winning knock to secure victory and led from the front. Inspired his men
Damien Martyn (3) Like so many times in the past, was vulnerable to spin. Rafique got him with beauties
Michael Clarke (2) Shouldnt have played the test as he still does not yet look the part of a test cricketer
Adam Gilchrist (7) Saved Australia in the first dig with a brilliant century. Hope he can be more consistent.
Shane Warne (6.5) Was expensive in the first innings though i suspect it was a reuslt of a sore shoulder and Bangladesh thought they were the first to master him. Sadly they were mistaken as he came back in the second innings and showed why he is a legend. Worrying signs for Bangladesh as they are not picking his flipper. Could pick up ten in the next test if they dont start picking it.
Brett Lee (5.5) Only one wicket on a pitch that did not respond to him. Tried his best though and you have to admire that. Made crucial knocks with the bat in both innings.
Jason Gillespie (7.5) Bowled beautifully and showed definite signs of a return to his old self. Looked to have gained some pace as well which is a bonus. Made a typical Gillespie innings in the first innings and will be as proud as punch that he got to hit the winning runs. Will play the Ashes series.
Stuart Clark (5) Found this pitch different to the ones in South Africa and Ponting couldnt really experiment with him given Australia's bad early position. Got a wicket though and will learn his trade at the highest level given time. Clark fans dont dispair there will be more wickets to come. Needs to learn how to bat though.
Stuart MacGill (8) When Warne was down with a sore should MacGill shined like a diamond. Must be Australia's unluckiest sportman and if he played in any other team or era he would be a legend. Showed his class picking up career best. Bowled tidily in the second dig but Ponting could risk his poor econoy rate so that is probably why Ponting preferred Warne to MacGill.

Bangladesh
Javed Omar (5) Made two starts before he was caught on the crease in both innings
Shahriar Nafees (8) Bangladesh's batsman of the test. Played a brilliant knock in the first innings. A promising talent
Habibul Bashar (7) Led from the front like a captain should. Played well in the first innings and led the side well.
Rajin Saleh (7) Played gutsy innings in both digs and showed he can bat. Should idolise Allan Border cause hes got the same determination.
Mohammed Ashraful (5) Didnt show his talents.
Aftab Ahmed (4) Like Ashraful failed to shine. Didnt bowl either which was a surprise
Khaled Mashud (6) Kept brilliantly behind the stumps but would have completed his performance with some runs.
Mohammad Rafique (8) Was an absolute star with the ball causing the Aussies all sorts of problems.
Mushrafe Mortaza (6.5) Bowled consistenly and tidely and was rewarded with 3 wickets in the match
Shahadat Hossain (5) Didnt really have any impact but picked up a wicket. Pitch didnt suit him
Enamul Haque Jr (6) Bowled well without luck. I get the feeling he should have done more with ball as Rafique picked up 9 wickets. Was unlucky.
F4Evo
that's a very nice analysis there mate, looking forward to more

I hope Cullen and Bracken play in the next Test ahead of Warnie and Lee. Give them a rest.

Warne wont be rested cause Australia wont want to be complacent like they were in the first test. Warne, remember didnt play the one day series and had a long break before the SA tour. He shouldnt be too fatigued. Lee will possibly get a rest as hes had a long summer. I also expect that Michael Clarke will deffinately be dropped and possibly Damien Martyn.
Donny
Lee seriously needs a rest. He bowls his heart out in every test , bats in most of them as well and when he fields he gives his all as well. In my opinion even if Aus rest around 3 players they can win

Yeah they should win and hopefully they will. I agree with Lee being rest and the Australians will probably do it so that he avoids injury. The reality of the situation is that Australia has almost two different teams for tests and one dayers so most of the test players had a rest during the VB Series. But yeah look for Lee to be rested, possibly Mike Hussey but he looks as though he could play 24/7. Gilchrist possibly might get a rest but I suspect that he'll want to get some more runs.
Donny
yea talking about hussey he is a wondeful player. he had to get bads to standing at forward short leg and he went running to the boudard and got it and ran back , he did himself atleast 4 times in that day , usually a substityue does that work for a player , but not for hussey tongue.gif

Yeah he's got the nickname Mr Cricket and I think he deserves it, he can do anything on the cricket field which makes me ask the question why wasn't he picked earlier? Hes now 30 and I just cant help but feeling thats we've wasted about 5 years in which he could have done the sort of stuff hes doing now.
Donny
2nd test has started already
Bangladesh 64/4
Scousy
5/105

Is MacGill not playing?

Is MacGill not playing?

Yeah he is. Australia has gone into the game with 3 spinners - Warne, MacGill and young Daniel Cullen
Courtsy
Three spinners my arse.
Donny
Aus are playing three spinners Cullen , Mcgill and Warne. Bangladesh were bowled out for 197 and australia are 151/2 at lunch. Jacques scored his maiden test fifty one his debut i think. Rafique getting both the wickets , last night Gillespie was sent in as night watchman and he is till batting on 20 odd runs from 96 balls tongue.gif typical!!!!!

If Diz ever wants to make a Test century here's his chance.

If Gillespie is going for a century than we might have wait till tomorrows tea session i think.

Dingo.

A Gillespie test century, never thought i would see the day but well done to him all the same, its been a timely return to form on the test stage, he has picked up some wickets and now has a century, hes on his way to a double century now, albeit he needs another 98 runs. laugh.gif

After the first test scare normal service has been resumed, i think the Aussies will power to 500 or so and probably could wrap it up with an innings to spare. Pity Bangladesh couldnt just win that first match then this test would have been very interesting.

Yeah its good to see him back in the Aussie colours and once more performing well. He had a really good series and will definately feature in the Ashes later on in the year. Many people wrote him off saying he'd lost his pace and his zip, how wrong they were!!!
Donny
Never expected that Jason Gillespie will score a hundred as i had mentioned beofre if he has to score a century he will have to bat till the tea next day and thats what he did. My prediction was helped by the rain ofcourse.

Think the break away from the Aussies test team has done him the world of good. Like you say he is performing really well and if he keeps up the form he will surely be a certainty for the ashes especially if McGrath is still away caring for his wife. Also think the new haircut has done him no harm. laugh.gif

hahah yeah its a funny co-incidence, as soon as he gets a hair cut he starts playing well. I suppose he had to get it cut at some point lol he was going bald and gray and his team mates were calling him 'skunk' and pepe le pew. lol
Courtsy
Hussey out for 182 sad.gif
But Gillespie still in, on 184 smile.gif He now has a higher top Test score than Mark Waugh.
Donny
it is seriosuly amazing man , it was unbelieveble to see Jason on a hundred but he is nearing on a freaking double hundred. I think he might remove his shirt and starts to make laps of honour i think.
chris.
Gillespie is now 201 not out!! Amazing stuff, he must be the only night watchman of all time to get a double century.

HAHAHAHAH I LOVE YOU DIZZY. GO HOME AND KISS THE MULLET.

Declared now. A tall, frosty one - to Diz beer.gif cheers1.gif
