CELTIC are delighted to announce the signing of Czech midfielder Jiri Jarosik from Chelsea on a three-year contract, with Celtic having the option of a fourth year.

Jiri (28), who has also played with CSKA Moscow and Sparta Prague and been capped 23 times for the Czech Republic, is delighted to be signing on with the Scottish Champions.

Jiri said: "It is a tremendous honour to sign for a club of Celtic’s size and stature. It is a fantastic time to be joining Celtic, with the club again Scottish Champions after doing so well last season and also with so much to look forward to in the Champions League.

"I am very excited about joining Celtic and hope to play a part in bringing even more success to the club."

Celtic Manager Gordon Strachan is delighted to have secured Jiri’s signature. He said: "Jiri is a player who I think will be a great addition to our squad. He has tremendous ability and experience of playing at the highest level.

"He is someone I feel will make an important contribution to the club as we look towards the challenges ahead, both at home and in Europe.”

Celtic Chief Executive Peter Lawwell added: “We are delighted to welcome Jiri to Celtic Park and are pleased to be able to bring a player of such quality to the club.

"We are pleased already to have signed a number of new players as Gordon looks to strengthen his squad.

"Supporters can rest assured that we will continue to support Gordon’s plans for the future as we look ahead to our domestic and Champions League challenges"

Great addition to the squad and IMO will offer more than Roy Keane could have. Also, to get him for £2million is great business. Squad starting to take shape ahead of next season

any footage? did not really get much chance to see him with Birmngham last season. By all accounts a great bit of business though.

To be honest i dont think he will improve your squad at all , i dont think he is that great a player !

He should do a brilliant job for you can play anywhere - He played upfront for Birinigham the best part of last season...

The reason i said what i did was because he could play well against teams like pompey and fulham no disrespect to either but when he was at chelsea he couldnt cope when he had good players around him

Well either could Scott Parker, yet he would walk into any SPL team and more than likely be the main man. Jarosik has done well everywhere, bar superstar heaven Chelsea, where you have to be a world beater to get a game.
