I just posted a similar article from BBC in the Freddy Adu section. Now seeing another article, I'm worried.

Americans will not like that. Just by that statement they will want to exclude him from the National Team.

Good one, Adu. I hope he leaves for European club soon, playing for DC is doing nothing for him.

If he went to play Ghana he could be a so much better player in an already good team. Also he should leave DC yes, if he went to a good club in Europe he could be trained into a very good player.

i dont think he would care what we like i dont think he asked for that poster boy thing US SOCCER made him into.bruce knew was'nt gona use all his strikers so i think he should have taken Adu to the world cup just for the experience . they did that with Ronaldo in the 94 world cup and he came back banging in goals left right and center . now i think England is tryin the same thing with Theo Walcott

It would be good if he stays with the uS to help taise the profile of the sport in the country however i feel sorry how these african nations could have such good squads yet the players choose to play for european or other countris that will more than likely have more succes

Err not necessarily, i mean yes alot of African players prefer to play for European countries becaues they moved there at a very young age, like Adu, and want to repay that country for nurturing him and placing faith on him. Then there are players like Essien who prefers his home country. It's their own decision IMO, and yes it would suck for Nike to lose their "American Soccer Ambassador" wonderboy.

dude did u know that have won four african cup of nations b4 the qualify for the world cup win the world youth champs , somthin we've never come close to doing, this is the same Generation of players that went to the under 20 youth finals in Argetina around 4 years ago. the only thing thats stops some of these African nation from winning the world cup is that the dont have the finances most countries in Europe has. so the cant make the facilities to train players proberly

despite what the article says, Adu is captied to the U.S. he also was just being diplomatic imo.
Joshinho
Jun 26 2006, 03:14 PM
Technically, he can still play for either. The cap was an unsanctioned FIFA friendly.
Personally, I say it's up to him (of course). He should play with the country that he identifies most strongly with. He's still just a teenager. In general....teenagers don't know their ass from a whole in the ground. So, I take EVERYTHING he says with many grains of salt.

American superstar Freddy Adu has confirmed he will be leaving DC United after the current MLS season ends.
The 17-year-old continues to be linked with a move to Old Trafford, although Premiership Champions Chelsea reportedly remain interested.
"I will be going overseas - that is my goal," confirmed Adu.
With the current MLS season well underway, Adu could be available to move to Europe in January.
I get the feeling that he is disappointed that he did not get picked for the WC.

Michael Essien has urged Freddy Adu to join him in playing for both Ghana and Chelsea.
The DC United striker has been one of the most talked about starlets of recent years, with the future of the 17-year-old, both domestically and internationally, remaining in some doubt.
Adu has represented USA at various levels but has not made his senior bow and he is now mulling over an offer to represent his native Ghana.
The African's impressive World Cup campaign could convince Adu to make the switch and Essien, the Black Stars' key player, has spoken of his admiration for the hugely promising hit-man and in the process, pleaded with him to join Chelsea.
It has been widely speculated that Manchester United and Chelsea will be at the forefront of the queue if, and when, DC United decide to cash in, with Essien urging a switch to West London.
''Freddy is a really good young player,'' Essien told the Star on Sunday.
''I hope he joins me at Chelsea. It would make me very happy.
''It's now up to him to decide which country he wants to play for - and he would be more than welcome in our team.
''He's a good player, who has more to learn.''

I think he should play for Ghana as he will improve his game mentally and physically. The ACN & world qualifiers are tougher than in the Concacaf & he has not been picked for the WC which shows U.S.A those not want him that much.

Adu is no fool.....unless he is looking for exposure.....in the African Cup of Nations (which is much bigger than the Gold Cup or whatever the US have).....he should know that it will an absoute dogfight for Ghana to qualify for 2010 out of Africa......there are more then 10 worthy African sides....and five spots......meanwhile the US will coast.....Also the US need him more than Ghana.....The only creative player America has plays in that yeye league they have.......Adu could fill that spot.....Ghana have Appiah, Essien, and Muntari......when Adu converts to a forward....defender or keeper.....he should come calling....because if there's one thing Ghana don't need....it is more midfielders..
I think he should go to Ghana he will learn and improve his game more playing there instead of the USA. I hope he comes to Man utd if he goes to chelsea i reckon he'll be another talent wasted.

Honestly what has Adu done to even merit a call up by either team. It seems the two teams just want to call him up just in case he does become a superstar in the future, he would only be able to play with their country. I am gonna laugh when Adu plays for ghana for one game in a Fifa sanctioned game and then doens't get another call up for years. Oh well who needs him anyways.

Or they spend the next 3 World Cups at home watching. The African qualifying is very very difficult. See: Cameroon.

I think that adu will go to the US team, and here is my reason, qualification for Ghana will NOT be easy, there are several tough african squads and it is not a sure thing that they will make the WC like the US who plays weak teams. And whether I want to admit it or not, playing in the USNT puts you in the spotlight and can further his career.
If the US wants to compete in the next WC they have to give adu a spot on the team and send him over to England.

HA! Adu leaving.... all the millions from Nike and the american market...i laugh at that. he just talking so that USA soccer asso. will not forget about him. he has been improving a lot at DC United with a lot of playing time. i believe another year at DC would be good for him, to get a little playing time and confidence. but he will get better and tougher in europe. he needs to stay and Rossi needs to join him in Team USA. Adu will also stay with the US's new idea on ATTACK SOCCER, where he will get more chances to score goals and millions of dollars.

Freddy would have to be out of his mind to want to play for Ghana instead of the USA. there's a reason that this world cup was the first one Ghana had ever qualified for. compared to CAF, CONCACAF qualifying is a joke. we ended up playing teams like Guatemala and Panama in the Hex. would Freddy really rather play against, say, Morocco, Egypt, or Tunisia? and that's not even mentioning the top tier African nations.
of course, this is all assuming that he continues to progress and eventually does get called up (or get called up again, if he stays stateside). this is far from a guarantee.
i think his ego is just bruised a bit, that's all.
