Matty #3
Ian Holloway has succeeded Tony Pulis to become the new manager of Plymouth Argyle.

The former Bristol Rovers boss arrives at Home Park to fill the vacancy left by Pulis, who returned to former club Stoke City earlier this month.

Holloway has been out of management since being placed on gardening leave by Queens Park Rangers chairman Gianni Paladini back in February, having then expressed an interest in the managerial vacancy at Leicester City.

Instead, The Foxes appointed Rob Kelly to succeed Craig Levein at The Walkers Stadium and Holloway's situation meant he went on to see out the remainder of last season away from the touchline.

Holloway was linked with the vacancy at Stoke, but after Pulis opted to manage The Potters for a second spell, The Pilgrims turned to the former QPR and Bristol Rovers player.

With his appointment at the Devon club now confirmed, Holloway will begin preparing for the new Championship season by meeting his squad on Thursday when they report back for pre-season training.

My heads spinning with all these Championship managerial changes...but Holloway should be a good appointment for Plymouth.

What do you Argylians think about this?
Dingo.

I know what you mean Matty, so many managerial changes, could be the busiest summer for manager changes in a long while. blink.gif

As for Holloway i think hes a good manager, certainly decent enough for the Championship. Did a good job at QPR and im sure he will do a good job at Plymouth. I thought Sturrock might return but obviously i was wrong.

Im sure Rab will nip in with his two cents as soon as hes back.

Well i'm back now and can say that oly reasonably pleased with the appointment of Holloway. He is a proven manager at this level and will keep the Greens in the Championship i'm sure, but whether he will develop the team and make them a real protion chasing force, i'm not sure...

Once Pulis left, I never thought we'd see a charactyer like him back in the home park hotseat, but the appointment of the new gaffer has changed all that. He's a bit of a strange character but has usually a good rapport with players and fans alike. He certainly won most of the club fans over with this:

Holloway said: "I can't wait to experience the backing of the famous Green Army - I know exactly how passionate they can be. It'll be nice to be on the same side at last.

"Please get out, get behind the lads, and get behind Argyle for this game and let's get the feelgood factor going as we approach a new and important season."

Nice way to introduce yourself to the fans that'll be on your back all season!

I would have preferred to see Paul Sturrock back in, or another high profile manager but as appointments go I can't coplain. I'm not sure of his usual style of play, but the overall concensus seems to be that he'll get the good players playing and the not so good players working their asses off to improve. If he can keep that up all season, i'll be well happy come May!

Some Argyle 'Hollowayisms':

[*]"We have a wonderful cake mix but I need to add some extra flavour to the current ingredients."

[*]"We've got some strong characters who never give up and if I can add to that with some players that I call flitty-farty people who still care."

I just want to add that highly rated Plymouth striker Reuben Reid (below) is now playing for my cricket club in the Devon Premier League and is a pretty decent allrounder. Not as good as me at football but a better fast bowler!
