In the past some discussions in this subforum went offtopic and as I think that it might be a good thing to get to know each other better it's time to get our very own general chat thread started.
As for the name, I'm not sure whether this is a decent name or not so if you have any good ideas just let me know it thumbsup.gif .

You can talk about almost anything here, no racial or poltical discussion though.
Post stories or pics and stuff like that which wouldn't be worth it's own topic on here. Or tell us something about your driving school lessons, school life, job life and so on.
I take it that you got what I mean thumbsup.gif .
Oh and of course you have to keep in the terms of service.

To start things, I would say, let's share your WC experiences and thoughts with us.

Who do you want to win the tournament?
Who disappointed or impressed you in this WC? (both teams and players)
Have you done anything unusual because of the WC, maybe you didn't go to school so that you don't miss out on the matches? Have your say.
How is the WC atmosphere in your country/town?

Let the fun begin beer.gif .

Who do you want to win the tournament? Germany

Who disappointed or impressed you in this WC? Disapointed: England, Brazil And Czech, Impressed: Ukraine, Ghana and Australia

Have you done anything unusual because of the WC, maybe you didn't go to school so that you don't miss out on the matches? Because i live in australia all the matches start at the earliest midnight, so basically i've been up all nite every nite(luckily its the holidays)

How is the WC atmosphere in your country/town? It was huge while it lasted....the country as u would expect jumped on the band-wagon, shame we went out through a dive and a poor ref decision...
The_Gunners
Who do you want to win the tournament? France
Who disappointed or impressed you in this WC? Disapointed: England, Brazil ,Netherlands and Czech.
Impressed:Ghana,Australia,Ukraine
Have you done anything unusual because of the WC, maybe you didn't go to school so that you don't miss out on the matches?no I live in Germany .there are the matches after school but since one week
i have summer holidays bigsmile.gif
How is the WC atmosphere in your country/town?
the atmospere in my town is good but not so good
like in Dortmund or Cologne.

Who do you want to win the tournament? Germany

Who disappointed or impressed you in this WC? Disapointed: All the Italian strikers, the ref's, Czech Repub Impressed: Lahm, Tevez and Australia

Have you done anything unusual because of the WC, maybe you didn't go to school so that you don't miss out on the matches? I live in Austarlia but have been in Germany for the entire world cup and even went to 4 group matches while travelling all over Germany....... it's been real different for me.

How is the WC atmosphere in your country/town? Germany has been huge...... I'm heaps glade to see Germans embracing their country with all their flags and patriotism.... something that has always been missing in my eyes every time I have visited.

Now onto a completely different subject........ how did the Bundesliga tipping end last season? if I remember correctly the scores were not posted in the last 3 or so weeks.

Have you done anything unusual because of the WC, maybe you didn't go to school so that you don't miss out on the matches? No, but I missed several games due to driving school theory lessons and school stuff. Something which was pretty unusual anyway, is that I went to the hairdresser during the Germany - Argentina match. We had this date there since 2 or 3 weeks and in the end I only missed just the minutes 35-60 so the real entertainment followed later.

It was quiet funny to hear one of the hairdresser talking about football, especially when she repeated 3 times that Zidane is 30 years old, even he is 34 years old laugh.gif .

How is the WC atmosphere in your country/town? In my town it's pretty quiet compared to the big towns I would say, there are flags on cars and balcony's all over the place though.
In Germany in general, I hear the atmosphere is good and fans behave fair towards each other most of the time which is very nice smile.gif .
Oh, and when Germany is playing the streets are next to empty and after Germany won their games many people in the country went nuts about it.

Oh mate, this sounds great. To which matches have you been?

As for the Bundesliga predictions, the scores of the last 3 weeks haven't been posted until now. *Glow* was too lazy to do the last scores after the specific matchdays and she hasn't bother too post them yet. I can tell you anyway that *Glow* didn't catch me anymore due to lack of form, so I finished 1st, ahead of her and you in the 3rd spot.
*Glow*
Who do you want to win the tournament? Deutschland.

Who disappointed or impressed you in this WC? Impressed: Ghana, Australia, Germany. Disappointed: Holland, England, Sweden, Czech.

Have you done anything unusual because of the WC, maybe you didn't go to school so that you don't miss out on the matches? Hm, not really, I could watch most of the matches anyway. But I was on my friends' birthday and we went bowling and then I watched Holland-Ivory Coast there instead of actually bowl lol

How is the WC atmosphere in your country/town? Awesome. Just absolutely awesome. Especially when there was a match here and you were in the city, the foreign fans just threw a big party lol unforgettable experience.
And all the Germany fans are of course great too, everybody has at least one flag, many have them on their car and in school, you see boys (and girls of course too wink.gif) with the german flag on their cheek or something. So yeah, the atmosphere here is awesome! smile.gif
Ooh and what I thought was great too, after the Germany-Argentina game I had to take a bus home and it also had a Germany flag in one of the windows, loved that! And also after the Argentina game, I went past two flagpoles, one with the Germany flag and one with the Argentina flag and the Argentina one was on half-mast! That was so funny smile.gif

oh and admozzie, yeah I'm too lazy to do the rest of the prediction, sorry lol. But as Alex said, he's first, I'm second and you are third smile.gif

Who do you want to win the tournament? Deutschland, then Portugal

Who disappointed or impressed you in this WC? Dissappointed: Ivory Coast, Serbia and Montenegro, Ronaldinho

How is the WC atmosphere in your country/town? Very good, alot of pubs and big tv screens at the malls. But too crowded, I watched it at home. wink.gif

Well I was in Dortmund for the Sweden V Trinidad Tobago Match..... Big Disappointment as it ended 0-0 but atmosphere was amazing

In Hamburg for Equadore V Costa Rica.... Great game 3-0 and the stadium rocked

München for the Brazil V Australia game........ Stadium and game was unreal, pitty the ref was blind

And Stuttgart for Australia V Croatia.... This game was the highlight of the trip. So full of ups and downs, great game (also helped to be returning to my Church - Gottlieb Diamler Stadion)

But like I said I have been seeing a lot of Germany in the mean time and you guys really have a fantastic country.

Most disappointing team which i thought shouldve better was Serbia and Montengero.
Most disppointing player was Julio Cruz, i really thought he couldve scored a few goals

Have you done anything unusual because of the WC, maybe you didn't go to school so that you don't miss out on the matches? Have your say.I Actually took a week of to watch the World Cup Cause World Cup is every 4 years and also Considering one of the Greatest Tournaments, so how could i miss it? wink.gif

In Germany we have a band called Sportfreunde Stiller who made their WC song "'54, '74, '90, 2006" in which they sing that Germany will win the WC 2006.
Now after Germany are out of the WC, the band simply have a new version of it, I just heard it on the radio today.
It's called "'54, '74, '90, 2010". biggrin.gif
Well, this band knows how to keep the fans in their good WC atmosphere, pretty intersting stuff.

Same here mate, I also prefer to watch matches on TV in a pretty quiet and relaxed atmosphere at home.

It's nothing compared to going into a ground anyway, where you simply drive nuts whenever you like to do so biggrin.gif .

I quiet like the idea, it fits nicely into the German area of SP, so why not?
If the majority is up for it, then we'll make it "The SP Oktoberfest".

Cheers for that suggestion mate.

General information
I will be away to Turkey for holidays from friday, the 7th of July until friday, the 21st of July.
Just to let you all know, so don't wonder when you don't see me online in this time.
Have fun and play fair wave1.gif .
RockinRaul
"the sp oktoberfest" sounds damn cool. i would like it and it would make it typical german.

and since this is the oktoberfest *lets pretend* i would like to know, has anyone ever been to the oktoberfest? and if so, did you enjoy it?

IPB Image

i was there before, but since i am born and raised in stuttgart, i have to say that the stuttgarter version of it the "cannstatter wasen" is better tongue.gif

it is just as big as the oktoberfest, it is wonderful, it has all the cool attractions, like the bigwheel (?)

IPB Image

who else likes going to places like that? does it exist in any other places? anyone having any expiriences they want to share?

i once saw a kid getting thrown out of one of those fancy looking entertainment things. he cracked his head open and suddenly it was not so cool to go there anymore.
ForcaFigo7
This is a nice area. Never realized it before. Thank you Alex, for creating it. I will just join the topic, okay?

I was born in Munich, so I went to the Oktoberfest all the time. It was the best thing when your parents took you there. I was a big fan of the Horror House and I liked it that my Dad used to win all the teddies for me. Then later my brother did.

Now I am pretty good at winning them. But I haven´t been to the Oktoberfest for like 10 years or even longer.

But I go to the Wasen all the time. I like the waterfall things the most. When you get soaking wet and they take a picture of you when you look really silly. laugh.gif

I know someone who got on the big wheel last night, just to get a sneak view on the Robbie Williams concert in Munich at the Olympia Stadium. Daniel... anything you want to tell us about? whistling.gif
energy41
Now that nobody was against the idea of Muji and I wasn't pleased with the thread name anyway, I changed the thread title (as you can see now).

As for the Oktoberfest, it appears to be a must go, I think that I should have a look on it in the future, just as the "Cannstatter wasen". And even if it would only be one good reason to come back to Munich/Stuttgart after many years.

I actually don't like those "get drunken because many people get drunken" festivals, but it might be well worth the experience to go there.
In our town we don't have a similar festival, so we actually only have all those big wheels and stuff when the christmas market is in town.

But we are well known as a big carnival city, anybody ever been to a carnival procession around the world?
If so, how did you like it?
When I was younger, I liked it when they threw around a lot with candies tongue.gif , but the older I became, the more unexcited I got about carnival. It's just not my kind of thing really.

What about you?

It sounds quiet interesting that there are still people who have such crazy ideas like sitting on a big wheel just to see someone/something in action when you don't have a ticket to join the concert fun whistling.gif .
CaptainCarrots
Can I just ask why its the Oktoberfest yet it's in September, is it not?
RockinRaul
its pretty stupid actually. it used to be in october till 1872. then they started it in september, because of the better weather. but it alwas lasts till october, so they kept the name. silly, huh?

in 1980 there was that bomb at the entrance of the oktoberfest. that must have been scary.

and energy... about me on the big wheel to see robbie... adriana, is there anything you want to tell us? like i was there in the pooring rain, outside the concert, freezing my ass off for 7 hours? while you enjoyed the show and had some fun? i was expecting something like "thank you dan, for coming with me, because i am so scared to travel by train alone."
energy41
Now that isn't nice at all. You had to wait 7 hours for her because you wanted to protect her and then she apparently didn't even say thanks. sad.gif I would feel disappointed if I was you.

But well, when you can get your hands on Beyonce's knees, you'll get over it someday. At least a bit. I hope.

The Bundesliga prediction league on SP is back, heading into the second season now.
I'll try to defend my title from last season but it won't be easy since Energie Cottbus are back in the top flight now so I just have 272 games to make unbiased predictions this season, not 306 games as last season.

Right now I would say admozzie is the main candidate to win it, maybe just a feeling but I think that he can do it this year, last season the gap was too big already when he joined so why not?

4 more nights (in Germany) and Bundesliga football is back hump.gif .

and about the prediction league, i will soooo join that smile.gif i will be your biggest rival smile.gif
energy41
Yeah, and some girls don't appreciate it if a guy is nice e.g. the russian girls in my last holidays whistling.gif .
But that was before knee pimpin' was a new trend, now things might better tongue.gif .

As for the prediction league, I suppose it will be a very close race this season which is nice as it should be more exciting than last season smile.gif .

Random note: Make that 5,500 (without Word & Post Games) on here now beer.gif .
admozzie
thanks for the optimism mate...... got a bit to live up to now....... hope I don't perform like VfB Stuttgart last season g.gif .

already posted my first predictions, I'll keep my fingers crossed. Goodluck to all playing, but my first prediction will be that energy will win again and I will be third or fourth again this season.

As for oktoberfest, I went back in 2002. Man, what a day! first we had a wiess wurst fruehstueck complete with Hefe-Weissbier (I miss Paulaner crying_new.gif ), then we went to the oktoberfest and had a couple of beers. After that we went to a FC. Bayern game (against Bochum, Elber scored 2 goals, final score 4:1). After that we went back to the Oktoberfest and had to promptly bribe a security guard to sneek us into one of the most popular tents, where we continued to drink and sing and laugh all through the night. It was one of the best nights I have had in Germany (and that is saying something cos I got married in Germany!!!). It was not all about getting drunk, it was the friendly festive atmosphere that I remember so fondly. Unfortunately I didn't go on any rides.
I have also been to the Stuttgart version as well and funnily enough it was also after a Bochum game (Kuranyi scored his first hat trick, final score 3:0 if I remember correctly), the most memerable thing about that night was waiting for the train for over an hour before realising we were on the wrong platform poster_oops.gif
RockinRaul
hey now that is great. you are from asutralia? and you got married in germany? i am from stuttgart and my girl is from australia. maybe i get married over there whistling.gif who knows? and you support stuttgart! best choice mate. really good. some great players you like. funny i never talked to you before laugh.gif

yes, i can´t wait for some fun on the "wasen" and i do not go there to get all drunk and stuff. i like to wander around and mostly i enjoy looking at the shit scared faces of the tough teens trying out the newest and scariest ride they can find. and the moment there on it they all looke like "please, let me OUT!" laugh.gif

i have to do the prediction, so, excuse me.
energy41
I believe Kuranyi scored his first hatt rick in a 3-0 win against Bielefeld, not 100 % sure anyway.

As for your predictions, fingers crossed that your result in the Gladbach - Cottbus match is correct biggrin.gif .

To how many German football grounds has everybody on here been btw?
I have been to some small ones, but the only ground of real matter is of course the stadium of Energie Cottbus. My targets for the upcomming season are Berlin and Hannover, probably but very unlikely Stuttgart as well. Shame about the schedule that I won't have time when Energie Cottbus play in Hamburg, but whatever.

See what you have missed Mr. RR, you could have meet up with a fellow Stuttgart time some time ago, luckily you 2 crossed your ways finally.

It's good to have a VfB Buddy in here, if I get cut, I bleed Red and White (proudly). After consulting my old photos it appears that you are correct, it was Bielefeld and not Bochum poster_oops.gif

As to how many ground I have been to: Gottlieb-Daimler (of coarse and quite a few times too now), Allianz Arena, Olympiastadion (not for a game tho), Westfalenstadion, AOL Arena and the old Olympia stadium in Munich before the Allianz Arena. Oh I have also been to the ground of the Stuttgarter Kickers (not sure what it's called sorry)

I saw a few grounds from the outside (old Oly in Munich, Freiburg, old Volkspark in Hamburg (I believe), Fürth (from the plane lol) ), but your list is impressive. Hopefully I will make it to a St. Pauli match one day as well. I mean a home match of course, even I wouldn't mind another 4-0 trashing win for us against them in the future like I saw back in 2002.

As for the Allianz Arena, luckily there are still those "1860 vs someone" games as tickets for Bayern games seem hard to get.
Of course you should invite me, I mean, come on, I'm your fellow trendsetter.
And to 2), where's the new club name now? Only freaks would believe that this name is for real, but it is a fake, it's way too long anyway. Knee pimpin' is for real, short + simple. cool.gif

CaptainCarrots
Right, I know im being annoying now, but meine fraulein (im fluent in German, such a showoff tongue.gif) is dragging me to Germany for the Christmas markets this year, but she doesn't know where to go and where the best ones are...

Would you recommend Berlin for the Xmas markets, or is Cologne the place to be?
ForcaFigo7
One of the biggest is in Stuttgart (no kidding!) it is also one of the most beautifuls. Then of course, the one in Nürnberg. That is the "Christkindlmarkt" in all its beauty. So those two are fantastic. I have been on the one in Munich, wonderful aswell. Those three are the ones I know and the ones I can recommend. I have not been in Berlin or Cologne, sorry. sad.gif
CaptainCarrots
Munich would be good, you can fly direct from Glasgow
energy41
The christmas market in Cottbus is small and pretty crappy to be fair, not too easy to reach because you have to use the train from Berlin or Dresden to get there. So I wouldn't recommend this one to you.

But in Erfurt they have a nice christmas market every year, I could recommend it to you.
It's more full with life than Cottbus, but still not as busy as Berlin I suppose. Just a nice middle thing of it which I personally like.

Those are the 2 christmas markets I've been to. Erfurt has its own airport, on the first look at the homepage I couldn't find any flights from Glasgow to Erfurt, but then you just would need to fly from some other German town to Erfurt, let's say Munich after you've been to the christmas market there.

And as Nuremberg isn't far away from Munich you could actually go for 3 christmas markets pretty comfortable smile.gif .

So does anyone live anywhere near Wuppertal?? I'm applying for a uni exchange to spend second semester 2007 there. I haven't been to Germany since I was three years old and I'm really excited about it. I'm planning to spend at least another six months there after I finish the semester in February so what are the things that you would all recommend I do and places that you recommend I should go? Bear in mind I'm going to be doing 8hrs a day, five days a week + arseloads of assignments for the entire semester (Sept - Feb) so won't have a lot of free time then. I get two weeks off for Christmas and am trying to avoid going to the UK and spending it with relatives, any recommendations as to what I could do for Christmas in Deutschland?
I found out that when I pay my GSF at the uni I get a free public transport pass for the whole area (incl. Koeln, Bonn, Duesseldorf, Aachen etc., the best part of which is that I'll be about 45 minutes on a train away from Moenchengladbach so I'll go from not even being able to see highlights of their games to going to all of their homegames ...I can't wait.

Is it just me or is this an excellent fake?
Fresh Ebay Goodness
I can't help but think that maybe the red and yellow stripes are not quite the right thickness but everything else about it looks excellent. Unfortunately he doesn't seem to have a Neuville equivalent but hey, these things happen.
Generally speaking I avoid buying items off ebay from places like thailand, hong kong etc. but I think I might make an exception, he seems to have pretty good feedback.

Hey, I was wondering who on here has a drivers license or is in the process of making it?
How many driving lessons did anyone take until he/she was ready for the practical test and how many tries did anybody need for the theory test?

As for myself, I've had 13 driving lessons until now, the first was a catastrophy laugh.gif but I have improved my skills since, luckily + I passed the theory in the first place, it was close but well, who cares about it now tongue.gif .

What about you?
Donny
Hey Energy its Friday and tomorrow its the matchday please set up the week 3 prediction thread so that we have sufficient time to predict mate thumbsup.gif
energy41
This weekend there are cup games, all clubs from Bundesliga 1 and 2 are involved so there isn't a prediction thread for Bundesliga games this weekend cheers1.gif .

Apart from that everybody on here is free to open those predictions threads, just as I posted in the pinned thread where you can find the prediction scores.

It just turned out that I opened those threads often, but I have no problem at all when anybody else starts those threads, just post the fixtures&dates and everything is set for it really.

The next Bundesliga match is on the 15th, it should be enough to have new thread intoduced any time from Monday to Wednesday so that there's enough time left.

Cheers for the heads up anyway cheers1.gif .

sorry. i was away pretty long. i am back now and i will keep posting in this thread. the whole germany thread smile.gif

and alex, driving is something you will learn doing it more often. so no worries. i had 20 driving lessons. payed them myself. but as we all know i had some "lessons" before... wink.gif
energy41
So where have you been and how was it?

Yeah mate, things get better and better, still need to be more cool whilst driving.
But well, the driving school teacher is a funny bloke and well entertaining so it's fun.

Next lesson tomorrow after school and then weekend, finally beer.gif , will be a busy one anyway dry.gif .
RockinRaul
i´ll keep my fingers crossed for you and your next lesson. relax. you´ll do fine. busy weekend, yes, i know. and did i not tell you were i have been? 3 weeks spain, backpacking with my mates? starting in sevilla, ending in madrid. sleeping on the beach, meeting different people, drinking good beer, listening to good music. having so serious fun. and missing some football. seeing the bernabeu and the nou camp and missing my girl, most of it, that is what i did.

any details? send me a pm laugh.gif kidding.

but good to be back with some good german footie.
energy41
You told me where you've been, but surely not too many user knew about it.

I have to say that I love to travel away for holidays, my last holidays weren't even 2 months ago, I would like to go again on holidays soon anyway smile.gif .

The driving lesson today was quiet good, that bloke of driving school teacher is just talking the funny shit. laugh.gif
We had to wait because it was "red", in the car next to us was a guy that the driving school teacher knows.
So they had a bit of small talk through the windows.

Guy: "So how are you?"
Teacher: "Totally shit man because we have red."

Classic laugh.gif .
RockinRaul
well mate, driving is the best fun you can have on four wheels... oh wait, let me rethink that one tongue.gif

next time you will join me on one of my trips, okay? that would be some great doku soap for rtl II hahahaha.
energy41
Driving yourself is fun and good.
Let someone drive you is much better anyway since you can chill more then biggrin.gif .

Let's face it, RTL 2 would be delighted to get some entertainment to their shows so why shouldn't they go for it when we are about to make a trip together? tongue.gif

Talking about trips, has anyone ever been to an away game with his favorite club?
Maybe you want to share your experiences with us since I believe not everyone on here as been to an away game of his/her club yet. Myself included I have to admit, want to change it this season anyway.

hi,

I am looking for fans forums of all of the teams in the topic heading. I am trying to get a feel of the supporters, the songs, etc.

Schalke, Hertha, Dresden, Dortmund, Essen & Dynamo Berlin

Can anyone help, I would prefer sites to be in English
RockinRaul
well i can help you out with some bayern and vfb infos. alex, well, energy, knows a lot more. i think you found the right place to ask. smile.gif

if you need some good songs. try "stern des südens" *means star of the south* and it is bayerns fan song. or one of them smile.gif

energy41
I don't know too much about Bayern and Stuttgart fans to be honest mate, guess we have a similar knowledge about them.

As for Dresden and Dynamo Berlin, they have probably 2 of the hardest fan groups in Germany.
Dresden have usually quiet a lot away supporters, their last home game which was last saturday has been visited by more than 19,000 fans. It was an east german derby, okay, but that's impressive anyway since some clubs in Bundesliga 1 and 2 wouldn't mind such an attendance in their ground.

Btw, I just reached the 1,500 posts mark in this sub forum bigsmile.gif .
RockinRaul
oh alex, i always forget to tell you in your sig "energie cottbus rocks and makes the bundesliga...." the s.

i wanted to tell you before, i always forget, now i told you here.

and i meant you know more about the german football stuff in general. i was too busy with spain and italy and stuff. i always followed the bundesliga and i talked to some of my mates about it, but here with this section and you around it is more fun to follow all the games. and laugh about some other teams. coaches. and hey, we even can laugh about english teams. *cough* arsenal *cough* tongue.gif

everytime I see Lukas Podolski he's always wearing something under his pants...
like another black pants or something. Can someone tell me what is it for???

is it for avoiding thigh injury??? Why other players don't wear it and just Podolski wear it?

Hehe your kidding right? wink.gif...
Many players wear them. They keep your thigh warmer and yes they prevent injuries. Nothing unusual to wear though.
