okay i might not have official source, or I might be late on this.
But i was on ESPN radio talking with the host on "Soccer Hour"..and I was mentioning some pros of participating in Copa America and tourneys like that(as far as the National Team is concerned)
He mentioned that due to "scheduling conflicts" and such, USA will not be playing in the upcoming Copa America

Great

. The time to change and make improvements is now.

so MLS is playing a huge part in holding back our International progress. if so then the Scheduling of this league needs to change. sure it produces players.but that is'nt enough we need tougher competition than Trinidad and costa Rica to progress to the next level and become real world Cup Contenders.

Isn't Gold Cup the scheduling conflict?
Its a joke, but as far as I know, its all speculation as to if we play in Copa. Sunil said we are still considering, but its probably more than likely we will pass it up again.
We should send our U-23 team to Gold Cup, (get Freddy to play so we can still sell out some stadiums) and send the real team to Copa ( and bring some youth from Gold if they preform well.)

Not a bad plan there JRLM. I don't see us having two teams in separate tournaments though. I wish we'd figure out a way to play in the Copa America, at the very least it'd bring us some more tournament expirience.

they always get invited...but always reject due to conflicts usually dealing with schedule or some b.s like that.
to get better as a team, we need to participate in tourneys like this. im sure I dont need to touch why that is.
NY State Of Mind.

great plan but the thought of not picking up any trophies will make their Bellies Crawl inside. Gold Cup is our easiest chance at winning anthing though Mexico Tinidad and Jamaica migh pose as threats, they except for mexico are not as good as the south american teams, the Gold cup trophy and easy wins we get as what keeps us up in the rankings so going to Copa America and falling short especially in the easrly stages would be a big blow to our program . these Cowards will never take that chance believe i tell you. Good plan though

if the US cant play in this years Copa America, its our loss, but i think it would be the last time we miss it. the new coach will want a higher faster playing level which will come from playing teams in tough environments. we need to demand to play in future tourneys esp. if we are not invited we need to show the americas and the world that we are not push overs and contenders with heart. going far will make them hate us, yet respect us, and would tell their players that our team and league would not be weak and more players would join the MLS, makin that better and making our players there better...win win win...
