Liverpool will replace Olympiakos according to Liverpool Echo.[newspaper]
Legend89
The greek laws regarding the football issues have been changed and it seems that the suspension will be cancelled.

I think Scotland's Co-efficient would be too low to allow them three teams in the Champions League anyways, even if Rangers were ranked near the top of the qualifiers, which I'm not sure if they are or not.

Scotland are ranked 9th in UEFA co-efficient, and don't even have one auto spot, never mind 3 qualifiers

I was thinking about that, but it may be a knock on effect..

If Liverpool take Olympiakos's spot, then the next country down gets Liverpools qualifying spot, and everyone gets moved up one place according to country ranking, non?

Seems like Liverpool will take the spot, but i think Tottenham should be given the place

Tottenham shouldn't be allowed in and aren't. Why should they? They didn't finish in the top four. Anyways, England or any country for that matter can't have more than 4 teams in the competition.

Funny. 2 seasons ago, Liverpool didn't finish in the top 4 and were still giving a chance to qualify for the CL. You wasn't complaining then.
Juveman
I think the suspension only relates to the national soccer team, and not their clubs so I don't think they they would get kicked out of CL in any case I think Surs would be able to get a qual spot if it is all greek teams.

We won the bloody thing and had every right to defend it. What the hell have Spurs done to warrant them a place in the Champions League other than bottle it in the last game of the season? doh.gif Nothing.

Yes 2 seasons ago, and since then UEFA have made it clear that no matter what there will be no more than 4 teams from one country in the tournament as they don't want another ''Liverpool'' situation. That's why Arsenal were going to take your spot had you finished fourth and had they won the Champions League.

If you got a problem with the rule, go take it with UEFA.

They're suspended from ALL Competitions, including UEFA Champions League and UEFA Cup. This comes from the horses mouth, Sepp Blatter.

Tottenham won't be get the spot as they haven't qualified. The only thing that is happening is a club will be moved directly to the group stages. There's still 4 English teams and therefore another one wouldn't be allowed.

"Why should they? They didn't finish in the top four" That's what happened to Liverpool, plus the fact you keep reminding us that only 4 English teams are allowed means by your comments, Liverpool shouldn't have been allowed in the CL, but the law has been changed now anyway.

The fact that Liverpool won the Champions League the season before you don't seem to understand. It was UEFA who changed their own rule that one time and promised not to do it again.

Whether they won it shouldn't mean the should get an automatic spot. You don't seem to understand that the CL was originally for the winners of each league. That's why it's called 'The Champions League', then they added the 2nd, 3rd place teams. If a team cannot qualify through their own league then they don't deserve a spot, otherwise you'd have teams who finish 20th in their league and still qualify which is totally against the fundamentals of what the competition is about. It's a contradiction.

Look at the World Cup, the winners are not giving an automatic spot for the next tournament, instead they have to earn it. Something for some reason, you cannot seem to understand.

In 1981 Aston Villa finished 11th in the league but won the European Cup. It's not bullocks, if you win a trophy then you should be allowed to defend it. Particulary the European Cup.

UEFA and the English FA fucked it up, Liverpool is not to blame. The year before Liverpool won the cup, Chelsea and Arsenal met in the quarter-finals. It was said then that if either of those two teams win the European Cup and finish outside the top four then the fourth team would be dropped and the winner would take the spot.

However the English FA changed their mind when Everton finished 4th, the same bullshit rule didn't apply to Liverpool [surprise surprise]. Therefore UEFA had to make a decision, thankfully only 4 teams from England went to the group stages as Everton were knocked out.

Tottenham don't deserve to be in the Champions League qualifier because they fail to finish in the top four, had they won the European Cup then they should be in it. But they haven't, you obviously can't seem to understand what I'm saying.

The spot that Liverpool might get is a spot in the group stages, therefore they wouldn't have to go through Champions League qualifiers. Why the hell should Tottenham be allowed directly to go to the group stages?

When the hell did I say Tottenham deserved a CL? Go back and quote me, abosolute nonsense! I was just pointing your're hypocritical response to the poster before.

Read every single words I wrote in this post and then tell me when I said Tottenham deserved it, ofcourse they don't. Like I said, I was pointing out your silly point that a team don't deserve a CL because they didn't finish in the top 4 when the year before, your team got in the same way. The World Cup has gone that way and so will all UEFA competitions soon. If you win a trophy but were not good enough to even qualify for it by being the top 4 team in your league then you definately don't deserve to defend it. The rule is already changing and has already for the World Cup.

The problem is not that you cannot understand what I'm saying, you haven't even read what I'm saying.

Can you guys please just stay on topic concerning the Greek Suspension and who should get their spot other than saying that Liverpool were and were not worthy winners who knows back when. smile.gif

But I do think that suspending Greek clubs is not fair from the UCL. Some of the players on their squad are not Greek, and would move elsewhere for sure.

But on an international scale its pretty much confirmed.

No use discussing this, the problem has been resolved and the suspention will be cancelled.
