I was just wondering why you can't find one Mexican on the US squad....I just find it odd.....there is even a Nigerian and an Asian on the squad but no Mexicans....just because..the US has a nation below it...that continually sends immigrants into the country...not to mention that Mexico is more of a football nation.....any thoughts on the subject?

Good point. Jay leno made this one his punch lines a couple weeks ago. At the youth level there are many mexican-american kids who play from rec level to elite level. Also you mention that mexico continually sends immigrants into the country.........and guess what 80% are illegal! so they can forget about playing for the US national team. and anyway most of these immigrants dont come to america with football in mind they come for jobs and a better life.

Pablo Mastroeni has some spanish descent, I can't be positive its mexican-american or not. Reyna's roots are Argentinian. I'd say we have a pretty diverse pull of players.

we have mexican americans in our youth programs that are on the way up to the full squad. Ochoa played for the U-20 side and plays for Nexaca in the MFL. Rodrigo Lopez started for the U-20 that beat Canada 2-1 today. And Arvizu and Villanueva are on the rise. I think it is just a matter of time before we see many mexican americans making full side appearances.

the Youth program is full of mexican-americans like myself, which is good because we are known for our attack style, and ....acting...hopefully our mex-american youth doesnt get the latter... i disapprove of that in any way. the next WC squad will be a large mix of all races like african-amer., italian(europe)-amer. and latin-americans. i also see future latin success in the MLS, which will need the mexican american player to bring in the latin-american fans and their bottomless pockets when it comes to soccer....

I'm pretty sure that Mastroeni was born in Argentina. I'm also pretty sure that Reyna was born in America.
Herc Gomez was born in Mexico wasn't he? He was on the bubble for getting called up. But I do find it strange that there aren't more Latinos in the player pool. Jrlm8 makes a good point that it is changing.

No. You have to be a citizen and you can not have played for another country's senior national team in a FIFA sanctioned match. For instance, Mastroeni was born in Argentina but is a US citizen.

That's possibly because they have connections to other countries, and if we get them to fit in with our system they might opt to play for the States instead of another nation that their parents have ties to.
