As we all know, Rui Costa is back at Benfica, after years of waiting he's left AC Milan for the one club he truly loves. Do you expect him to be that creative force we've sorely been needing lately, or will he be unable to create the magic of old. Despite his age, the limited games he's played at AC Milan showed that he still has the magic, the ability to pick a golden pass or score an elegant goal.

yes! Definitely he will always have the ability to create something, you dont lose that as a player, as you get older you usually use your pace and stamina. of course he be playing 90 minutes game in game out, which is why i think we should have a back up for him because i dont see anyone else who could play in his place.

The guy hasn't lost it. Physically, it will be hard for him to play 90mins at the same level he used to play when he was 26, but technically he is perfect. I am so glad he plays for Benfica now, that I will also buy his shirt. ;p

The Shakhtar game will be Rui Costa's last game ever in the Champions League
I hope we win...it would suck for him to lose and Benfica not even make the UEFA Cup

Rui Costa to quit at season's end December 31, 2007
LISBON (AFP) - Benfica's former Portuguese international Rui Costa revealed Monday that he will retire at the end of the season.
The 35-year-old midfielder said that he always intended to end his career with Benfica, the club where he began his professional career in 1991.
"I would have liked to leave the club proud of what I achieved ... and for what I achieved to be appreciated, and for me to be recognised as a good professional," he told the daily Record.
And he admitted that he would like to continue with the Portuguese giants in a coaching capacity.
"At Benfica I see myself in the job of sporting director. (I) need to continue to smell the odour of the locker rooms.
"But I still have four months left before hanging up my boots."
Rui Costa, who had 96 caps for the national side, retired from international football after Euro 2004, where hosts Portugal lost in the final to Greece.
After Benfica (1991-94) he played in Italy with Fiorentina (1994-2001), then AC Milan until 2006.
He returned to Benfica last year but was sidelined for long periods injured. The club are currently second in the league seven-points behind FC Porto.

It would be truly special if we can make the UEFA Cup final. Just being in a European final would be the perfect send off for him. It won't be easy though but I am really hoping it can happen

Even as much as I dis-like Benfica, that would be amazing for Rui Costa.
I don't if this one will be as sad as Vitor Baia leaving

Tomorrow will be his final match. It will be very sad to see him retire, and disappointed that this season didnt go better to sent him out of the game.
This guy is a legend and will always be remember by Benfiquista's and Portuguese around the world. Thank you Rui Costa for the memories

He wont just be missed by Portuguese people, he will be missed by football fans world wide. I cant think of many players universally regarded as a legend at 3 clubs and thats a testament to Rui Costas attitude and personality as well as his footballing ability.
He is also one of the icons of that period in the late 90s when Serie A was, for me, the strongest league of my generation. Be it with Fiorentina or Milan, he is an icon of how football should be played!
FORZA RUI!!!!!!

As Alan said true football fans who had the pleasure to witness this unbelievable man and the talent he had were truly blessed.
One of my favourite players in the last ten years especially when he was working in unison alongside Batigol at Fiorentina One of the most beautiful sights in football. Sadly Rui Costa doesn't get the credit he deserved throughout a career of sublime passes and pure intelligence on a football pitch, much like Juan Roman Riquelme.
My defining image of Rui Costa will be his pass for Sheva to score against Real Madrid, what an immense pass that was
Anyway ciao Manuel, football will miss another superb player

It was pretty hard to hold back the tears...
Rui ends as a legend at three clubs, he was a player that wasn't cocky and accepted his role. Fiorentina, Milan and Lisboa will all remember Rui for his glorious moments. One of the greatest passers of the ball, with an amazing vision for the game.
Adeus Rui, e obrigado por tudo ke tens feito! Boa sorte Maestro.

He will still play some friendlies in Angola I think, but this was basically goodbye
A true legend of the game, not just for Benfica or Portugal, but everywhere. Apparently he received a letter from AC Milan thanking him for his service and wishing him all the best, it was in A Bola

I know you don't understand italian, but I post the messages only to prove it...
My limited Italian tells me that this was a very heartfelt letter. No bullshit.

I think this could be excellent for the club. He is an emblem of what the club stands for - quality, sportsmanship and class. Given our current situation on the pitch it is vital to remind prospective signings and those already working at the club - of what it means to play for Benfica. Rui's presence, in that sense, is vital to maintaining our standing among the greats.
I also think that because of the obvious passion Rui has for the club this won't be some meaningless title like some 'directors of football' have had. Since his 'new role' came into effect and the appointment of Quique Flores, there has been a general buzz about the club, a fresh start if you like, a willingness to haul ourselves back into the big-time, Obviously it's still very much early days and LVF will always be an obstinate obstacle but it's very encouraging. Rui Costa is a massive part of this.

He was the best CM player in the world in his days with Fiorentina I will never forget what he has done to AC Milan at the San Siro the 4-0 Just before they bought him
I think all his opponents hated him he loves to pass the ball thru their legs like they weren’t there
