I'm my team's captain smile.gif

Remember, there are differant types of captains. Find the style that works for you. Are you a Keane? A Gerrard? an Henry? A Puyol?
Here are some things that have worked for me.

1)First of all, talk to the coach. Get him to like you. TRY NOT TO ACT LIKE A SUCK-UP

2) Concentrate very hard, try to pickup things and skills quickly. The coach will want someone who has good technical ability.

3) You must be a good speaker. Be able to raise your teams spirit. Simple things in training like " Hard luck" "keep up the good-work" "Great shot, why don't you do that more often? ( make sure to smile when you do this) will get the coach on your side.

4) Get angry when you concede, get freakily ecstatic when you score. The coach likes passion.

5) Commitment is a must. Go for every 50-50 ball.

6) Cut-out your "class-clown" attitude if have one.

7) Try and be as consistent as possible, make it hard for him to leave you out of the team, you'll shoot up the pecking order.

8) Remember, awards tend to go to the captains. Make space in your trophy cabinet smile.gif

Ok well first you ask how to become a team captain, then you ask for some tips on being a captain.

Well i'll try my best to answer both.

How to become a captain? Well its up the coach and what he likes, but at training make sure you set the example for the rest of the team, turn up early, stay focused, and make sure you talk alot(whilst playing, not just normal conversation talk)

Tips on being a good captain:

Be positive at all times, accept referee's decisions even if you know their 100% wrong, dont abuse other players or officials, only worry about your team, be the first to back your players up for everything

and most of all, make sure your always communicating with everyone on your team, including the coach

there it is a nut shell. Given van persie has told u everythin u have to knw.
if u follow that ur manager/coach will have to think abt u being captain.
My old coach was crap he always gave the best player the captains armband when he couldnt captain a team to save his life. dry.gif

Can I ask why you want to be a team captain? If you are an individual who deserves to be the captain then you should be appointed captain anyway (unless your coach is dumb, of course). If you don't really are about the outcome of games, if you don't care about your teammates, if you don't work hard, then you don't deserve to be captain. You don't really make yourself into a captain, you be the best at who you are. Some people are captains, others aren't.

I think its something you are born to do. Its a personality thing, wether you have the right traits or not is down to luck. Although if you want to try you can do alot worse than follow that ^^^^^^^^

Generally you can't do it yourself. An other man decides it anyways, your coach. Sucking up never works and only leaves you lower in rank then you already were.

i was wondering this also becuase were getting osccer for our high school and im abotu the only one that pays every day
Allan.
Talk, talk and Talk during games do not shut up, tell everyone where to pass the ball, shout man-on, time, turn or whatever tell people to make runs, just don't shut up.

But being captain of a team has a lot of bad out comes. And you must be as good as henry ( tongue.gif ) to be a captain. It's hard to be "The chozen" out of 11 men. I would only advice you to be closer to the players. have them as friends, help them and also understand their problems, share with them off and on the field. Remember not only does the coach choose the captain but a team. So if you are well known among the players and regular player in the squad then you would be able to captain the team any day.

But if I were you, I would let the coach choose the captain and would only worry about improving my skills.

i was the captain of my team. if you do what everyone is telling you to do, you'll have a good shot. i agree though that you're either a leader or not. I'm not sure i have it i just always try to be myself, and i guess that worked for me. anyway, good luck!

And also remember to always give a good head-butt to one of the other team's players; shows character.

I was kinda thinking the same thing. It depends on your personality.

Being a captain isnt a "big" thing. Sure if your team wins the competiton, he/she gets to hold it up or whatever, but a captain cant win games on thier own. Its just a little band wrapped around your arm to let the referee know who is going to be saying heads or tails. smile.gif

Oh and BTW, if you want to be the capt of your team, DONT suck up to the coach. If I was a coach, I would hate it and make sure he doesnt become the captain.

i guesss are team is having a captain our coach said were all leaders. lol
Greatness
i was a captain for three years and for me it was like this..

1. first to practice

2. last to leave

3. always smiled with the guys but never joked around

4. got my teammates to trust me

5. coach trusted my talent and i thought i was a really good player

6. if ur really good and team moms and stuff like u alot and the team is always like give the ball to him...then ur like the most liked player on the team...easier target...

7. always encourage the guys...

8. tell ur teammates whatever u feel like it...

9. give ideas on what to do to ur coach...dont over do it...do it like once in a while...

10. always be a good role model

Our team captain is just simply the big mouth of our team, doesn't shut up. It kinda helps because he'll just say how to do things better and not keep it to himself.

so just open yourself out a bit, you dont necessarily have to be the best player, just usually the most confident about yourself imo.

Always remember this, there's criticism and theres constructive criticism. Shouting at someone on the pitch because they lost the ball is not right. Let the coach decide if he should be on the feild. Constructive criticism is when you go up to them and say "look for an earlier pass" or "chin up fella, you'll skin the bastard next time". Making a mockery of someone in front of the team only causes bad feeling and bad morale. It also makes you look like a see you next tuesday thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif

Sorry mate, but what on earth is this? A step by step guide on how to fit the prototype of a leader/captain? LOL "get angry when you concede, go freakily ecstatic when you score" either the joke's went over my head or this is grade A drivel

Anyway, If you want a better shot at bein the captain you should be the best you can be, playing and attitude wise and if you push yourself enough and are good enough, you will naturally start to lead the group you're with. There is normally more than 1 leader on the park and you'll just have to hope it's you who gets picked.

Some of the advice folk have given you is good but it's stuff you should be doing anyway. Things like talking through the game, oraganising and little shouts like "left back", "stand up", "time" etc and lifting the heads when you go a goal down. This type of thing will def help, but if you really want to win, and do as good as possible, you'll want to make sure your team mate does pass to the left back who's open, does stand up and not dive in, does know he's got time on the ball etc and the leadership qualities come out.

As far as wanting to be captain goes, from my POV, I look around the changing room, and if theres someone I feel I have genuine respect for as a player and as a person, whom I respect their knowledege of the game and attitude and can learn a bit from then I'm happy for them to be my captain, if not, and I feel like I'm leading the sidethen I would wan't to be captain. IMO the best thing you can do is be the best you can be in every area and see if the leadership qualities come out, don't set out to specifically be the captain.
AxedByMe
Shows good leadership skills, depends if the coach likes u, praises their team mates etc, personally i dont want to be a team captain
ilcapitano_05
First of all, show the guys around you the right example. Meaning you lead from the front. That's important.
I Named My Son Rocky
Why does it take an armband for you to have to spur the team on and show responsibility/passion for your team? Don't think about the armband, show you care about the team and eventually the manager will reward you for hard work.
