Faye White sustains serious knee injury

Arsenal Ladies and England captain Faye White is likely to sidelined for much of this season after picking up a serious knee injury.

The centre back ruptured her anterior cruciate ligaments in her right knee in a pre-season friendly match with Bristol City on Sunday. The injury caused her to come off late in the first half and she has since had surgery.

“I’m extremely disappointed to be out of training with this injury,” said White. “I have an appointment with a surgeon early next month and we’ll have to take it from there. I know I will be out for a while yet and I wish [manager] Vic Akers and the rest of the squad every success on the pitch.

"We’re aiming to retain our League title this season, and definitely improve our performances in Europe. I’ll be backing them every step of the way”.

The injury comes at a critical stage in the captain’s international career with two crucial World Cup qualifiers on the horizon against Holland and France

That's terrible. She's our best player, and the England captain. I hope she pulls a rooney and recovers quicker than expected.

Terrible news for Faye who has consistently been englands best player in the last few years and will be sorely missed as England Captain. Here's hoping Rachel Unitt will gain the captincy in her absence.
