Wolves have named Mick McCarthy as their new manager.

McCarthy replaces Glenn Hoddle at Molineux after the former England boss stepped down from the role earlier this month.

The former Republic of Ireland chief has been out of work since leaving Sunderland in March.

McCarthy is looking forward to the prospect of managing Wolves and is ready for the challenge ahead.

"I'm delighted to be joining Wolves," McCarthy told the club's official website.

"There's a big job to do at Molineux and I'm relishing the challenge.

"I can't wait to get down to work. With just two weeks to go before the start of the season there's lots to be done.

"It's going to be a busy but exciting time."

Pretty happy with this appointment, i never actually heard his name in the press regarding the Wolves job before this appointment so it came as a shock but none the less i think its a top choice, he did great at Sunderland getting them back to the Premiership after there relegation a few years back and even though it didnt work out for him in the Premiership when he got there he is still a top manager IMO and i hope he can do the same for Wolves as he did for Sunderland, plus he has a decent chairman behind him here. smile.gif Now its time to hit the transfer market and really start building a very good side capable of challenging this season coming up. Good times. beer.gif

Yep decent appointment for Wolves and he's a manager with a big enough profile to attract some top names to the club, but it needs to be done fast. There's no point in bringing in new players the week before the season starts as they are most likely out of touch, fitness etc. and will have no time to gel with the team. He has to satrt brinigng players in the next week or so or not bother at all imo. It's vital he doesn't bring in players just for the sake of it. His appointment is two weeks too late for me.

Well Hoddle only left 3 weeks ago and then there was a few days when Moxey wanted to meet with him to discuss him reconsidering his decision so i believed they needed this time to hire someone, im personally glad they have taken there time, i wouldnt want the first person to show an interest to be given the job because it might not be the right decision in the long run but this way they have taken there time and accessed the options and thought about it good and proper. I see what you mean about signings though, im hoping that we have a real good week in the transfer market next week so that the new signings can take part in training and pre-season friendlies so that they integrate with there new team mates. Like you say though i hope he doesnt bring in players just because he thinks "Oh man theres only a week left i better get buying" because that wont help at all if the players are not good enough and not in shape.

I love McCarthy, and think he's a top manager. Glad to see him bounce back so quickly from the horrors of last season, and focus on a new challenge, which is sure to be a good one.

I hope he recieves a good ovation when he returns to the SOL, i really do. I dont think many of the fans blamed him at all for last season, but more so the lack of investment available to build on the squad. Some of last seasons signings were questionnable though, and that cant be avoided.

But he's done wonders for Sunderland, and built us a good squad, and hopefully he can do the same with Wolves. Best of luck Sir cheers1.gif
