yea i seem to be gettin injured alot as well ever since last year. I have always never got injured no matter what i did, even tho i never stretched or warmed up cuz i didnt believe in them. Now that i started to stretch properly and warm up i have been gettin injured specially if i ever forget to stretch. currently i just pulled my hamstring at least i think i did just happend couple days ago. Does anyone have any advice? also i know all science, and logic is against it but does or did anyone have this experience that no stretchin or warmin up better?
Redwolf9
well than stretch. As you get older you are more lickely to get injured so you have to stretch consisitantly
footballnut
yea thats probably what it is. but does anyone have advice on what to do on my groin pull, and how long does it take to heal usually?
ICONIK
Mate, stretching before training or a game is very important,
Not doing it is probably why players pull their muscles so much and get frequent injuries... Why do u think pros streth so much before games...
To prevent from getting injuries....
Dirge
Just as important as warming up is warming down. If you dont then your muscle fibres contract and this causes pronlems when you come to train or play again.

Russian gymnast are one of the top countries who participate in gymnastics in the world, obviously they believe there is some scientific explanation behind their theory, so I say it isn't fair to call them stupid

I don't stretch unless I'm going to play competively. I go outside and kick the ball around or play pick-up every day for between 30 minutes and 2 hours and I don't stretch and I haven't gotten any injuries in the last year. I can't really explain it.

yea let me know if u ever find the source, i could be right after all nicee lol
roddycobain
i guess they don`t stretch because they are in "perfect shape", i mean, their muscles are ready for action any time.

i don't know, maybe what i'm saying is stupid, but i can't find another reason.
footballnut
no i dont think its stupid, I used to never stretch and when i did i felt like it didnt do me anything (this sounds stupid too). but that was when i was younger, but now i always have to stretch or i will get hurt. Also i am very flexible considering that i am not big on doing stretches
Romanian Magic
You should really try stretching more, just keep on stretching.

Actually, there are different point of views regarding to stretching, especially strecthing after training/match. some doctors/scientists/physios says stretching after activity is good, some say it isn't. However, I remember we had a doctor over at some training that claimed if you are used to stretch after training/match, then stretch. If not, it's very important not to. If you're not used to stretching it could be bad to suddenly start doing it.

Failing to stretch or properly warm up is one of the stupidest things you could possibly do. Look at professional teams, they're getting ready for games at least an hour beforehand. It might not be very rigorous but you have to properly warm up.

in fact, it has recently been proven that stretching reduces power in the muscle by about 10%. i will find a source but i have studied sports at university and remember my teachers saying this.

dynamic stretching is the most effective.

WARMING UP is still VERY IMPORTANT though. get your heart racing and about 75% of its maximum in the run up to a game. 30mins to 15mins before.

ever not warmed up properly?? the first ten mins of a game you are absolutely knackered, and then feel fine. this wont happen if you warm up properly.
Greatness
idk how to stretch...i never liked it and i never did when everyone else did...now i get injured fast...alot of cramps and stuff...and alot of back problems...and im only 16...so always stretch...it helps alot...
footballnut
well see i used to be like u Greatness but i never got hurt and always felt better than when i did stretch, but now that i am 16 i always have to stretch
Richardinho
when warming up you should be doing numerous pulse raising activties, remember to this before stretching you should not stretch cold muscles, static stretching reduces saq (speed, agility, quickness) you should be doing dynamic stretches which involve movement and you hold for only 3-4 seconds you should do each stretch several times on each side
Edson Buddle
stretch were u get injured the most and take strecting importanly i didnt and i got injured to learned my leason

Warm ups should be dynamic stretching, that is moving and working the upperbody as you jog, then slowly working out the legs. Afterwards it is very important that you do static stretching.
AxedByMe
Lol, once i cant be bothered stretching and i cramped myself heaps bad, now i learn to stretch before playing =)

Lol i always wondered why that happened to me. Im always tired in the 1st 20 mins and feel dead lathargic (spelling ?). What can i do to get rid of this. Can anyone give me some good warmup techniques or anything that could help this.
Sky
Why wouldn't you stretch. The last time i didnt stretch properly (i arrived late) i pulled my groin and was out for 3 weeks.

How are you stretching before games? Are you doing hard standing stretches for long periods of time? As a poster above said that will weaken your muscles. I used to not stretch at all then picked up some bad injuries from over training/getting older I guess. After a hamstring injury I stretched the injured muscle too soon after the injury instead of resting and icing it and it got re-injured. I stopped training for two weeks and when I came back changed to a light warm up and stretch routine. My injuries eventually healed and I've been good ever since.

Before a match start by jogging for at least five minutes very slowly (you'll see pros do this at the start of sessions also). Get blood to your legs and get your heart rate up a bit. Then start doing some slow stretches on the trot, kicking forward, kicking back (heel to butt) etc. for another five minutes. Then stop and do some LIGHT stationary stretches, stop when you feel a slight tug and hold for 10 seconds. Move on to the other leg. Repeat three times per muscle group so you're doing a light stretch for a short time several times. I suggest working from the bottom up (ankles and then calves etc.) so you don't leave out anything. Shake out your legs after every stretch and assess how they're feeling. Stay loose with some more light jogging and ball work until team talk/kick off.

Pretty basic stuff, hope that works for you.

Stretching is important!!

It is very important to know which stretches to do and wich not to depending on the type of person you are physically, the style of play your team undertakes and your conditions. As in all warm up/down techniques they must be sports and style specific. Excercise and stretching is particular to the person doing it. On average the warm up you see the pros do on the tv is split into three parts each varying in time but fairly simular each week for routine purpose. however, the drills and stretching they do all week is taylor made for them.

u may be getting problems cuz u are doing the wrong stretches for example the vast majority of semi an ami players dont warm up enough but do understake static stretches. (it is important to do dynamic stretching after your major muscle groups are very warm, then a bit of static 1970 stretching like touch your toes etc.) Another prob u oftern find with ami is a lot of humstring probs as a knock on effect of weak bum muscles, tight lower back and tight calf muscles.

TOP TIP- WARM UP VERY WELL GET UR LEGS HOT THE MAKE SURE U STRETCH UR GLUTES (BUM) ERETOR SPINEA (LOWER BACKS) AND GASTROCNEMIUS (CALFS) VERY WELL

in training work on and build muscle on core, bum, legs for better balance and less injuries. forget pecks, biceps and all the vanity muscles. if u run enough all fat u maybe carrying will drop off and ur muscles will show through.

stretching is a must. i do the same 3-4 exercises before every match and playing most matches 90 minutes, it helps a lot.

i'll try get a diagram or explanation of what i do if it helps.
I LOVE SCOTCH!
in our team we do both dynamic and static stretches/

i praise that.

also warming down is just as important as warming up. get into that groove and you'll have minimal injury concerns.
I LOVE SCOTCH!
yeah, we also do the dynamic and static streches for warm down aswell.
