Bolton star Kevin Nolan has revealed that he qualifies to play for Holland and is giving close consideration to his international future.

Nolan has blossomed into one of the brightest midfield talents in The Premiership, but his efforts failed to earn him England honours last term.

There is a changing of the guard at The FA, with Steve McClaren replacing Sven Goran Eriksson at the England helm.

A number of fringe players are sure to sense the chance to force their way into the England camp and many people have been championing Nolan's cause.

The midfielder is mulling over his options, as he could also turn out for Republic of Ireland and the Dutch.

"It's not only Ireland I have to think about," he told Wanderers TV. "My great-grandfather was Dutch, people don't know that.

"It was funny how it came up. I was at a soccer school in Spain in the summer, doing a few things for the kids. In a question and answer session, my little cousin asked me why I was always being asked about playing for Ireland and had never been asked about playing for Holland, because he's got a bit of Dutch in him.

"It just made me laugh, because everybody just talks about Ireland."

Looking to the future, Nolan added: "Obviously this is something I have to sit down and think about in the near future.

"It might be the next step. Not being in Europe with Bolton this season, it could be one of those things where I could step into the international scene with Ireland, if Steve Staunton did want me and if I got picked.

"It's something I have to discuss in the next few months but I've not thought about it because it's so far away."

Holland could use a tough physical midfielder like him, all business, nothing fancy, does the job well and scores goals. I think he and Scott Parker should've been in the England squad easily.

Uhhh thats why we have guys like Landzaat, V. Bommel and Cocu we dont need him. anyways he has no chance playing for Holland. He wont fit the system.

Lol I think it's pretty interesting. Never heard about him having Dutch blood.. Knew he had Irish though. I don't think there is any space for him at this moment, but it would be a serious option in my opinion. The midfield was pretty poor in Germany, we could do with some new strength

Nolan is good enough to play for any of the countries he's eligible for!

but if you listen to him..
it doesnt really seem like hes interested.. just stating his options..
sadly, it probably wont happen..

Those three aren't half as tough as Nolan is, he's more skilled than you're giving him credit for.

I would dig into Cocu's career before saying Nolan is better. But Cocu quits the Dutch team anyway, so he shouldn't be in that list smile.gif I think there could be a place for him, but the problem is if he once plays for us, he can not play for his other options anymore. So he has to be conviced he'd get fair chances.

He probably doesn't speak Dutch appart from a few words grandpa told him, does he?

we certainly don't need some one-dimensional kick'n rush farmer playing in the dutch team that's famous for it's technical and creative abilities.

Maybe that is just the reason why we might need him
Juan Carlos Valeron
you make absolutely no sense. just forget about it. we don't need him.

Why doesn't that make sense? Didn't you miss a midfielder that was willing to fight for the team, one like you mentioned. I did miss one.. Altough we all would love to see it, we're not going to make it with only a bunch of light technical players
Juan Carlos Valeron
van bommel and van nistelrooij fight for the team.
Peace
Nolan would do well for the Dutch, you need a tough midfielder rather than someone who attempts to play 'total football' all the time. Nolan can do that
Juan Carlos Valeron
they haven't played total football since 74. give us lampard instead and we can all have a laugh.

Nolan and Lampard are pretty equal. Lampard is one of the most overrated football players alive.. Give me Gerrard instead smile.gif
